Trying to find an "expansion nut \ bushing"

This isn't the proper term for what I need. I have used these in the past to make mounts in stem cap openings.

Here is what I need.

There are 2 washers and a rubber or silicon bushing. All with the same outside diameter with a hole in the center for a bolt to pass through them all.

One of the washers has a solid mounted nut on it. So when you tighten the bolt the two washers come together and squeeze the rubber\silicone part and expand it.

I need this because a set of handlebars I have only have one end threaded for a bar end weight, I was going to use one of these to put a bar end weight on the other side.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Or should I just make one myself...if I can find a piece of round rubber .

Certain bar end mirrors use this system as to certain GPS mounts that mount to the hole under the stem cap on top of a triple tree.

Something like one of those emergency oil drain plugs from Autozone.

Or you could just buy mounting hardware for a set of barkbusters. I've seen those with rubber inserts, but aluminium seems to be more common.

Come to think of it, I bought a set of cheap bar end mirrors that had the same mounting arrangement as my barkbusters.

You're looking for a Well Nut. Not sure you can find them that large though. You can make a suitable piece from some appropriately sized rubber hose,washers,a bolt and a nylock nut.

I've TIG welded an M6 nut in the end of my handlebars before to use OEM weights, the kind with rubber inside, then the weight outside it.

NAPA sells those expanding rubber plug things. Useful for a temporary replacement for a lost cap of some sort!

This would be somewhat similar to my though, except the term over on this side of the pond would be a "lag bolt anchor"


(Actually, I'd just make something on the lathe so I could use a nice looking cap screw or something instead of a lag bolt but a lag screw wouldn't look bad and would be hell for stout).

It will take a little work but a 1" scupper/boat plug will fit the bill if you are in a pinch, and they are only about $3

Thanks guys, none of the real large hardware stores had it or knew what the hell I was talking about. But the little mom and pop hardware store around the corner knew exactly what I needed and they had many sizes, the smallest of which was a perfect fit.

I'll have to enlarge the center hole and get a longer bolt for my bar end weights and figure out a good way to turn the bolt but have the nut stay in place but It should be fine.

I almost broke down and bought a set of anti vibration bar end weights which basically do the same thing.

I have made those for handlebars. I used a flange-nut - a nut with the washer attached. Then I
made radial groves in the flange with a dremel tool, which gives enough friction so the nut does not
turn on the rubber fitting...

The easiest way I have found to do bar end anything is the simple drill a hole through some barstock, cut the barstock at an angle, tap the one side, and clearance hole the other, then when you tighten the bolt through the middle while holding inwards on the part you are installing the parts slide across and clamp.

Exactly how bicycles have been doign this forever.

all depends on how entergetic you are and what you have onhand to work with. but i find esyest to make something,,,for the rubber expantion sleeve reg. rad. hose will work. a good place to find a wide array of sizes is aircraft spruce....hope this helps
