So......I have this 2000 XR-650R in the garage....

It belongs to a friend. He told me to take it for a while to see if I like it. If I do, then I buy it.

I've had it out on a couple of short rides. As it sits, I could not own it. It needs to be sprung for my fat ass, it needs a fresh chain and sprockets, lots of basic maintenance (nothing drastic), maybe new plastic if I want it to look nice, a bigger gas tank, and probably lots of other odds and ends as I dive deeper.

Being a 640 Adv owner, this bike appeals to me as the bike I could set up for badass, gnarly, hard core desert blasting, primarily for day long jaunts. I could put on some serious knobs that give good traction, keep it a bare-bones bike, etc. That way, my 640 could fill the role as the bike I can run 400 miles of asphalt and then jump off road and run some dirt. It could also serve as a secondary bike when I have visitors I want to take on rides.

I'm just rambling. Any opinions on this situation?

Do it. I have a XR650L for mid dual sport, a XL600V for more highway, and a 450EXC for more dirt. You NEED more bikes.

I was up to seven bikes once. I sold all but the two that were not gathering dust. That left me with a 2002 640 Adv. and a 2001 Hayabusa. Oddly enough, my current stable contains only a 2005 640 Adv. and a 1999 copper Hayabusa. I do like those two bikes.

Oh, and pics.....

400 miles in one sitting on a 640? If you buy the XRR you'll get rid of that paint shaker.

I've knocked out a 500 mile day on the 640 and liked it.

Nah, I love that 640. It is the bike I would own, if I could only have one.

It's looking like it may be given to me.

I'll know more soon.
