Question Options...

Went for a look today:

GoPro hero 3. WiFi enabled out of the box $378 at JB (Non-WiFi hero 2 $294)

Sony ActionCam kit (2 batteries etc.) $378 at DSE

JVC Adixxion (what a wanky name) $277 also at JB HiFi. Supposed to have problems with the WiFi?

Contour 2+ $549 at the Good Guys (works thru BlueTooth)

I'm leaning towards the Hero3 after a close look today. Looks as though the older mounts will be compatible...

Who's used what & what would you recommend?

Very happy witj the Contour HD that I bought some time ago from Torpedo 7 for around $200.
Extremely good video whem set to 720, simple to operate and sits nice and close to the helmet.
Don't need anythimg better or later.Very easy to line up using the lasers

Hodgo, what do you use? I recall you made a great video of the Maidenwell ride this year.

6 of one. half a dozen of the other !!!

Both cameras have there pro's and cons. I have both (gopro and drift hd) and couldn't
pick one as better than the other, only to say that the drift is easier to mount using the
1/4 inch 20tpi thread (pretty standard camera mount) and has a rotatable lens.

Gopro now has a wifi control so your not reaching for the shutter button on your helmet
which is probably better than the drift bluetooth control.

I noticed the HDGhost has a wifi control which is better then the HDdrift.

The only thing i have found with video quality of these two camers is that the
GoPro shows my internal house walls as yellow when they are actually white,
the drift shows them as white.

Here's a still i pulled from some video off the drift. Who's that stranger on the left ? Is it the cheese man !

G'day Nick... how you doin? And to think both of those KTM's have been moved on since then ...who woulda thought???

That's good info about the GoPro vs Drift. Thanks. The Hero3 was getting the nod from me until I read about the new Drift Ghost.

One of the guys on our Cape York trip in May had his GoPro mount break after 2 weeks of endless corrugations. Lucky it was mounted on his bars when it broke because he flukily caught the camera in his lap! It was the virgin ride for the camera and there hadn't been any falls to weaken the mount so it seems not robust enough IMHO... for my type of use that is. I'm sure there'll be millions of 'mine didn't/hasn't' stories out there but my purchasing will be influenced by what I saw. Interestingly, my VIO POV ram mount accessory broke a few days later... so maybe a Drift wouldn't have fared any better???

I read that the new Ghost comes with an infrared remote, has a loop mode and few new tweaks & improvements. Those goodies plus my reservations about the GoPro mount have got the Ghost in front atm. That could change between now and March 2013 though.

Hi Shane,
All going good here thanks.

I must say that the new ghost has some refinements on the drift.
One that I like is that the remote on the ghost has a green and red light
to left you know your are recording or in standby which is bloody good idea.

I was at the ocbr recently and richard (iconman) was showing me all the
add-ons he had on his GoPro which are very impressive too.

There is quite a few sports cameras to choose from these days i suppose it all
comes down to whatever tickles your fancy.

Also, i must apologize for never putting a RR or pics from our last ride.
Wonder if its too late >
