Thanks, it is just a little frustrating...

This Thread is great. I read through it before I received my Montana and was ready with all the software when it arrived.

Thanks...

Mine sees the satellites just fine from the basement of a 2.5 story house.

Not issues under heavy pine forests yet either.

Try pushing down on the unit a little to make sure it's seated when you screw it down. The first time I tried mine wouldn't catch but just a little downward pressure and it catches everytime but yours might be defective.

Thanks, I tried that. It does not catch even with the unit not in the mount.

Thought I'd share what some may already know. If you aren't aware of the GS Trophy check out this link. It starts on Sunday, 25 NOV.

So what is the Montana connection you might ask? Well, it appears that BMW thinks enough of the Montana that they have re-branded it as the new BMW Adventure to join the BMW Navigator IV (zumo 660). Here is a short excerpt from the latest BMW Motorrad Newletter:
"Another new partner is Garmin, which is providing a world premiere for the GS Trophy: the brand new BMW Motorrad Adventure navigation system, which is based on the Garmin Montana. We are using the very first units of the Adventure. It will be available next year."
Cheers,
That's really interesting. I wonder if the BMW version will be different in any way, aside from having the roundel on it?

Having multiple maps loaded through one gmapsupp.img file is necessary on older Garmin units but your Montana will allow each of those in its own file.

And both the Cambodia and Thai maps are not unlocked for the device. I think your maps are the real problem.
You could be right about the unlocked maps, it does not explain the problems I had in Europe though.

I have removed the Thai street map from the Garmin unit as I do not have the originals of the other 4 combined maps

The error message went away, but the warnings are still there. I will have to live with that and see what happens when I enter Cambodia in a week or so

Cheers

What are you guys liking for a protective carrying case to keep the unit in when not in use?

I have a couple sets of these small bags:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o02_s00_i00

The largest size fits a montana, plus charger, cord, etc. If you just need to protect the montana, the smallest one works great.

I use one of these. Works well and the belt-clip on the back is rotatable with strong detents. $10 at GPSCity.

Cheers,
Gonna make us look it up, or maybe give us a part number (or link)?

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!

FWIW, the Pelican 1040 Micro case seems to be appropriately sized to fit it as well. Can be found here on sale, although I did not try finding it cheaper as I have not pulled the trigger: http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp...73304.11045276
