I was waiting for a 690 Adventure and got sick of waiting so the 990 was the next best thing. I know she's a big girl but I'll be mostly riding roads fire lanes and trails that suit the pig. I wanted something that I could throw the wife on too. I saw a nice set up http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...511345&page=46 but the 990 seems to have this already.

why wait
So get a 690 and make it an adventure
prob cheaper that way also.I can put my GF on the back and ride for about an hour or so, but then need a rest it is a bit cramped. But thats only once in a while and need be can do everything else. I am just saying because I thought I wanted a 950 for the same reasons but now 690 all the way

Do you have an aftermarket windscreen on your 690 ? if so does it make a big difference. Right now I'm riding a Honda XL 340 to work 40min and it has no wind protection and it sucks

990 all the way - nothing else - for me
of course I like the HP and while the 990 is not as quick as my CBR 954 the 990 on a gravel road and steering with the throttle puts a grin on my face everytime -- and I have the 530 for tight bush riding-- the 990's weight only is a factor when you are braking - and usually your going to fast other than that it's just like a big 100 hp Dirt Bike !

Weldit I found a 2010 990R with side cases and engine guard with 15000km for $13500 I feel he's asking a bit much but I'm comparing to a 2011 990 not R with 12000km for $11000 with side cases heated grips and still under warranty from Mission Cycle that i missed out on by seconds. What do you think?

990
As much as I don't want to start a war on 690 vs 990 (because i would win)
![]() here is a 990 http://www.gpbikes.com/new_vehicle_d...29&pov=2893738 But for less money and Km's (and better) 690 http://www.gpbikes.com/new_vehicle_d...88&pov=2936852 GP bikes

If money is not an issue, 450 and the 990. usually money is an issue... so 690 for doing it all. it keeps up to the 450 and better on the highway,,,And keeps up to the 990 and better in the bush...

Well if KTM would grow up and make this in a 690 version my problem would be solved
but they won't.http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=h...QEwAw&dur=1197 Grizzwald screwed with this post 11-24-2012 at 12:51 PM |

690
There are after market stuff to make it look like the 990 and would cost less.

since you can get a klr650 adv. for 9k and a ktm 690 enduro for just under 10k, then dress the 690 into an adv for 3k more, would you still buy it for 14k? or so... when you could buy a 990 for 18k.
I highly doubt the 690 adv from ktm would be any cheaper than $14k, new. I also don't think there is enough of a market for the 690adv from ktm. I too wish they'd make one, I'd buy it in a min. I wish they'd make a xr650r 6speed and efi.... with e-start. that I'd trade in the 690 for. all about opinions...... |

I will probably buy a used 990 see how that goes if I find it too big I will down size it for the 690 and add a massive wind shield and larger tank to widen the front and tell my wife to get her own bike.

I agree that seems a bit high at $13500 as new in 2011 I was $16800 plus tax on the Dakar model but you have to still pay 13% tax on the used bike now also not sure how much value the side cases add - me I can't get into them depends on the rider but I am looking at some soft bags for mine I thought I wanted the "R" model at the time for the extra suspension travel but am happy with the regular height as I am not pushing the limits of the bike and still enjoy it. the Abs which is not on the R model would not bother me as I turn it off most of the time anyway.

Totally agree, i had my 450 and 950SE and it was the perfect combination.
I've ridden a friends 690 and was disappointed, not much more power than my 450 that is tuned just right. If i had one choice it would be a 950/990. I've taken, and seen friends take theirs through almost everything, with a little more work of course, but that's all part of the fun.
