Airhead Centerstand Question

So- I just picked up a 1975 R90S and the centerstand can only be deployed by hand- the little arm thing that you step on to drop the stand is broken off right at the left centerstand arm. I guess my options are:
(a) buy/find a new/used centerstand.
(b) weld a new arm onto the existing stand.
(c) find out if there is some sort of aftermarket bolt on type thing that would restore it's function.
The arm thing that is missing (at least on my old /6) was flimsy at best and sort of grew to become this ugly, twisted piece of metal- there has to be something better...

What do you guys do when that piece twists or breaks?

The foot tang on the stock setup works fine, as long as you only use it to push the stand down until it hits the ground. Then you put your foot on the foot of the stand and rock the bike up onto the stand. I realize that that might not be as clear as I mean for it to be, but I'll hope you get the point. I'd just weld on, or have someone else weld on a tang and go with it.

that tang ONLY lowers it to the ground. It isn't like a japanese bike where it also lever the stand into place.

Place the ball of your right foot on the left foot of the centerstand, shift your weight to the right foot, tug back with your left hand on the bars and lift straight up with your right hand....viola!

Some guys weld a piece(threaded rod, etc) on when that tab eventually breaks; even when used correctly, it breaks.

I don't know of an official aftermarket fix.
Opinions are like internet connections- everybody has one.

I welded a piece of 12mm solid round onto my c/stand with a tiny 6mm diametre tit on the end of it.
The little piece of 6mm protrudes just enough for my boot to catch it and deploy.
Been there for years now.
Who cares about the extra weight, it's sprung. Twice.

I believe you can get new ones from the dealer for @ $215. Or $160 plus $35 shipping from ebay user alteteile2003. But the latter takes a long time to ship from Germany.
Too many bikes. Not enough time.

You might want to check the legs of the center stand for wear as well. If they need patching too, you need to compare the cost of getting it all welded up to buying new. If you have to remove it, might be time to consider new bushings and bolts.
