DRZ 250 jetting for Denver

Just purchased a 2001 DRZ-250 from a seller in Dallas. The bike does not have any airbox mods but the previous owner did remove the exhaust tip and says it is "full flow exhaust". Picking it up in 2 weeks on my next business trip but wondering what carb adjustments will need to be done so it will run here at a mile high?

Stock jetting with stock exhaust works pretty good. If I were you, I'd buy the exhaust tip and return the jetting to stock if it was changed at all. That simple. It should run great from 5k up to 12k, that's about the range we tested the one we had in.

Send a note to Eddie AKA "Burned" he is a Mod on Thumpertalk. He is the jetting guru and very helfull in general.

good question... i just picked up one of these bikes myself.

It runs ok throughout the power band but has some idle hesitation and sometimes drops the idle. I debate between the pilot jet being a little clogged or undersized. Its all stock.

In any case, i will be making an appointment with Eddie (Burned) in the near future. Hes local to the front range and has made my DRZ run like never before!

you guys have the pumper carb (01-05 & non-cali) or the cv carb (06-07 & cali bikes) on yours?

maybe too rich on the pilot jet? i assume you've runner cleaner through the gas, have a clean air filter (they are very sensitive to dirt filters) and threw a new plug in (iridium prefered)? you know all the easy stuff.

try a pine sol soak. i've done that with my DR and thought the carb was clean to start with. i was amazed how much more dirt come out and the bike ran alot better. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=560117

if you have not bought a plug yet try out an iridium plug. i've found they ignite fuel mixtures that are too rich or too lean (happens alot in colo changing elevations on a carbed thumper. even more so on a 250 with a pumper carb) somewhat better than copper plugs.

looks like the drz250 takes a NGK CR9E plug which would be a CR9EIX in the iridium
or even better Denso IU27 iridium (Denso came up with the iridium design as has the smaller and better designed tip)

thanks to all responders.

Hoping we have similar heat wave in 2 weeks so I can get some riding in. Any one know of any decent dirt rides in the Texas panhandle?
