She really looks the part. very aggressive. Hope you get a good run frm it. .

I run a stock KLR '10 model. had some major trouble at 10000km (6000mls) due I think to the "restrictors" in the carby. these are put in place so "learner riders" can buy this model ( with less HP) as soon as they get their licence in Australia. Kawa fixed it under warranty & threw the restrictors away. She now running sweet as.

I've now done 21000km (13000mls) total. Been on 2 x Outback rides of about 5000k each. Also completed 2 x 1000mls in 24hrs rides with std seat ..I personally don't have a problem with a sore arse. I am planning a 2000km in 24hr early next yr.

Mine cost $7234 with 6 mths rego. ( new) Dont complain about petrol prices....usually around $1.40 / 1.45 a ltre. ( say $6.00 gallon )in Australia. Most I ever paid was $2.05ltre at Innamincka. .

I like looking at top shelf bikes. But the KLR is a bloody good bike for the $$$.

I just found a online tire/wheel conversion calculator and it looks like the difference is only about 4 %.

Interesting thread. I have lusted over all the big adventure bikes. Test road almost all the most popular one's!
I have owned 3 KLR's, and I just seem to really enjoy them. They are very comfortable for me. And honestly I
don't care to do tons of slab. I prefer dirt roads, and the paved backroads in New Mexico and Southern Co.
I have done a few mods to the bike. Which saved about 12 lbs. Will be getting a lighter battery, and upgrading
the suspension next. Yes the bike is down on power, but for the type of riding I do with the KLR, it is about
perfect. Kawasaki, could have a fantastic bike if they upgraded the motor, 15 more hp, 6 speed, and better suspension.

I have a seat concepts seat with maybe 100 miles on it, I may sell it, if you are interested.
It is alot better than stock but I love the Corbin flat I just bought.

Yeah, I am putting a 35 watt hid in the low beam only and led lights for the instrument lights and led tail/stop to free up some watts for my heated jacket.

How do you like the Q4 ?
I currently have a old Q2 on mine but am planning on trying the Leo Vince next year.

I might be interested in the seat. I wanted to keep my stocker untouched just incase I wanted to go back. Good idea on the LEDs. Is there a mod for the instrument lights, or are they plug and play?

My pipe is louder than stock but seems to be much quieter than my brothers DR650 with a two bros can. I do have some doubts about what mine really is though... I got it second hand and the metal sticker/tag was burned off. I repacked it and slapped it on. I could probably tell what mine really is by seeing a q4 core... I got it cheap enough to not worry about it but the tip did make contact with one of the mounts on my wolfman side racks. I had to massage the side rack mounting tab a bit to make clearance. Once settled its still very close (like .010 close) but I would be worried more if I bought it brand new. I have heard that LeoVince is where its at! Heard nothing but good things.

Second:
This is complete and shameful hogshyte.

An OEM KLR clutch lever for, say, a 2004 KLR 650 from Bike Bandit
(you have to look under Kawasaki, then ROAD bikes, because it's not listed in the DIRT section)

Usually ships within 1 to 2 business days$18.91

An aftermarket lever for the F650 can be found for under 8 USD. But thanks for the hyperbole.

Those are some awsome accomplishments on a Klr !!!

I Have done some 1,200 mile days on touring bikes ,but have not exceeded 500 miles on a Klr yet.

Bar Risors

The bike already has a high bend aluminum MSR bar, probably a Atv high bend, judging from the rise and I like them but I had a set of 1" bar risers that I had ordered from MCL (Motorcycle Larry, RIP) for an old ST1100 lying around from years ago and figured I would give them a try.

They fit nicely and now standing is even better, the choke cable and wiring from the left handlebar was a tad tight so I routed them on the inside of the triple tree.

With this and the Corbin flat along with the regular pegs and highway pegs I feel the ergonomics are as good as it gets.

I also have a set of Ims off road pegs and an old set of Fast way F3 pegs from a couple Gs's I ran them on, that I will try to make work on the Klr and experiment with.

I have no idea why anyone would buy a BMW GSA. A KLR650 is all the bike anyone actually needs. I'm also debt free except for a small mortgage, I bought a small fixer upper 2 bedroom about 22 years ago and fixed it up. It has a 2 car garage (full of bikes) I refinanced it right after Bush invaded Iraq. I have less than 5 years to go on it, at $523 a month, taxes and insurance included. My EX wife's sister and brother in law owe nearly $2000 a month on a fairly new 30 year mortgage. I don't think I could live with that kind of debt.

I am so tempted to get a KLR ('09 or later) but I'm not sure what I would do with it. I have over $3K into a heavily modded XT225, and it works fine for everything but long trips. I have a Vulcan 750 and a Goldwing 1500 for long highway trips, and don't see myself doing any long distance off road trips anymore.

Hey Gas Guy, good to hear to came to your senses and got a KLR....

What part of Michigan you in?

Couple three of us ran up up to Copper Harbor early fall, neat country. I love the Upper Peninsula area.

I bet you know this, but the KLR "goats eye" window actually needs to be totally covered, black or otherwise submerged slighty, and not just at the half-way mark, at least the stock ones.

I have a 2009 with zero issues with oil, none, non-factor. Love my bike, they are so simple to work on.

You can't go by the owner's manual, hell, that says we have six gears too

LED INSTRUMENT LIGHT WEDGE BULBS x 3

I just replaced the 3 bulbs for the instrumentation and they are quite a bit brighter while freeing up 8 watts of power for about $10.00 delivered from superbrightleds.com.

That is a very worth while mod !!!!

And one of my stock bulbs was burnt out at only 13,000 miles.
