Christmas in Ocotillo Wells

We are strting to get the winter chill in the high desert... so for Christmas Holiday we head to Ocotillo Wells.

Camping just east of county line. Riding mostly outside the park... Badlands canyons and ridges... Superstition run... Plated ride through state park canyons too... should be some fun less traveled stuff.

Questions for you:

Anyone going down from this area? Sounds like you all have rigs or campers yes? Any room on a trailer? Will you be staying in a campground or? If so, is there a motel fairly close to your base camp? How long are the day rides miles wise? Have a WR250R with stock tank, 2 gal + 1 gal Roto. Maybe 135 miles if floggin the bajeezus out of it.

Usually we camp off Holly Rd side. We've got rzrs and the slot canyons are a lot of fun. Try to look you up.

It's pretty said when somebody posts a ride on ADV and then wants you to go to his personal ride site to find out the details. That sounds like a troll looking for members for his own ride site. That's pretty said that you are trying to steal guy;s from ADV and other ride sites to join your ride site. I've been to your site it sucks nobody there to talk to and you have the most posts on it. Have a little class buddy and respect the ADV site.

Sounds like you have all the bike you need. Day rides are typically 60 to 100 miles. I don;t know anyone from your way that has extra room for hauling anyone. I'll post it on our site to see what pops up. We dry camp in the open areas. Outhouse bathrooms aren't too far away. Never rented a room out there so can't be a help on that front.

We like it up there too. We usually hit both sides of the park a few times each year.

We will be out there Dec 29- New Years day.

We usually camp in the area around the Blu-inn.
Also have talked to Cbig about hooking up.
We will keep an eye out for you guys.

We are also running plated bikes and will be riding mostly outside the OHV park.
Although the kids will be riding in the dirt for the first time this year!!
So we will do a little of everything I guess.

If you are still planning on coming down. Maybe renting a trailer could be an option for you.
Plus it would save you from hauling it all the way down from where you live.

I'm headed to Borrego on the 15 or 16th for a few days. Tentatively plan to return after Xmas. We usually stay at the Holly Rd. side . Better for rzrs and easier in and out for my sized rig. (40 ft diesel funmover-heavy for any sand.)
Will get in touch b4 then. Earlier trip will be childless to decompress. If ur out rolling around then, look me up if interested..

What a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I had no idea someone did that. Seems quite reasonable as well. Anyone used them before? Feedback?

Have done it in Mammoth. Bring pine-sol
Also used to be an outfit called "gettin wet gettin dirty" did same thing. There's a lot of sand down there but I hear people have done it with those 250's..

You could have quite an adventure if you hit this then Randsburg/Jawbone or some such!
There's a motel in Salton Sea, one at the Leaping Lizard (or is it the Iron Door? I always forget) which is much closer than Sslton Sea. Borrego also has motels and Ocotillo Wells park itself has restrooms and shower facilities.

My best advice if you haven't ridden here is hook up with people for sure going when you are. Myself, I am kind of flexible. I know for sure I will be there the 16th. After Xmas dates are fluid and my wife and friends are trying to pull me to Johnson Valley.

Ocotillo is an open ride area. The surrounding Borrego park has some nice scenery and I prefer to ride if bcoz this time of year Ocotillo is crowded. Desert. Camp where you like.

The crowds are what make it fun!
The weather is almost always perfect.

Last year the fireworks out there were better than the 4th of July.
No joke the desert was all lit up for about an hour around and after Mid night.

We all had a great time burning christmas trees and some other crazy shit.

Watching people take runs at shell reef and devils slide.
Always entertaining.

I will have the littles ones geared up and riding dirt for the first time this year!
I may be even more excited about it then they are.
But they are pretty stoked!!

Most of the places I like to ride you dont see alot of people.
But the ohv area can be very busy. But it makes it fun to see everyone having fun.
This year is going to be great!!

Be there late dec 30 thru Jan 2.
Look for a xr650 and g450x BMW bike camped @ fish creek- plan to ride to Agua Caliente HS for a day trip and soak on 31st. Also will be monitoring local freq on ham radio( 440's)- tapped into the Santa Rosa repeaters....
