I think I got almost everything in except a food picture.

This Thanksgiving holiday was a bit different than the others.
Usually its a weekend of holiday and football games and
maybe some hunting.

This year, with Diann being out of town, and since the weather was
going to be gorgeous but cold I announced to my buddies
that they'd be invited to go on a two day
cannonball run of some of the covered bridges of Alabama.
No takers for one reason or another.

First stop, Pivot Rock.
A photo from last year
and date stamp on the pictures have the wrong year!

Debandi wrote a excellent article about this place a couple years ago and I made
a visit to it last winter.

This time I wanted a picture of the VStrom beside the rock like Debandi
did with his Gas Gas.

Too many leaves still on the trees and I just couldn't spot it.
This dead-end bunch of trees was enough to discourage me
and probably just as well.

I probably couldn't get the VStrom up to the rock for a
photo anyway, but wanted to try.

So its onward to see the cool covered bridges and other stuff
described in the book.
Here we go!

A little movie of the sling shot failure. Gotta click on the picture to see:

Worn flooring on this bridge:

Monument to the Spanish explorer DeSoto who was here in the 1540's:

Old Hank got inspiration here for one of his songs

Very pretty place. I can see inspiration here.

Moving on, found this most unusual place near Prattville:

FAST FAST trip.
Left Pensacola @ 7am friday,,,,,,,,,,,beat the sundown saturday @ 5pm.

First I want to thank Debandi for his excellent reports of northeast Alabama.
His reports inspired me to get out of the recliner and get on that bike and
explore some of the things he shared with us all.

Also, want to thank GSBS for his excellent book "Motorcycling Alabama".
ISBN-10: 0-873-5528-6
One of the rides David speaks of the covered bridges of Blount County and
it looked like a do-able 2 day event.
Combine this with Debandi's stories of Blount county and a memoriable
2 day ride happened.
Tony,

Great ride report!

You are an inspiration on riding ideas too!

Now,. about that slingshot.....I've been up to LRC several times and even if you did hit that water, it was too far to see the splash!!!!

I think you hit it just fine my friend!

Tony great ride report. I to would like the locations of some of the bridges you showed and maybe the tracks for the trip if you have it.

Looked like a great Thanksgiving ride to me.

Laugh I wouldn't mind doing it again with yawwl............

Lat/longs sent to Treeman, Woodsrider and you.

REALLY,,,,,,,,I would suggest getting David Haynes book "Motorcycling Alabama". His routes are outstanding.
On the Covered Bridge route he provided, I took the street friendly ride. He also provided a dualsport route of the covered bridges and I took just a smidgin on the VStrom (the picture where the little train tunnel was).

Looked like a snap from the little bit I rode.

Wow--enjoyed the pics & ride report, and that "Roadside America" website is Good Stuff! Just spent a half hour checking it out. Been thru Prattville many times, never heard about the "Cross Garden" 'til now.

I have been out of the Trials loop for many years, but I have not seen any local activity.
I rode with the group you probably found down in central Florida out of the Crooms area.
I used to have a decent area for trials riding near me, but it has been close down for a few years now.

No doubt Pete and Tony.

That fella was a cap pistol for sure!
He'd be fun around one of our campfires,,,,,,,,,,,,for a little while.
I'd like to hear more about the sex pit thing he was talking about.

There are several guys in the Pcola area who ride trials but they do not visit this site. Try R&R Racing (Bob Rikker) for more info.... not sure number etc but his shop is in Pcola.

Good luck...

Loren,

As for trials riding around here, like was posted up...they mostly don't visit this thread or site, more of a insiders thing....BUT....as for riding areas around here, once Whiting OHV/Clear Creek OHV opens up after all the paperwork gets approved through the proper channels, they have an awesome area to go and ride at (big pit with many obstacles, walls, etc.....fly over it everyday, can't stop looking at it), or you can get some obstacles in your backyard. I've been on the trials bike hunt for over a year now (reading/researching), but I'll be moving in the spring/summer so it all depends on where the military moves me if I'll get one. Worst case, move on over here, keep in touch with this thread and sell me your trials bike if you aren't into it..... Just out of curiosity, what kind of bike do you have?

Thanks for the help and the number, I'll give him a call. I had a Beta Rev 3 270 I just sold and have been sick to my stomach ever since, trials riding is way too much fun to give up and I want to start my sons out on those first anyway.

Thanks again for the help guys.

Tony,
Great ride report! Really makes me miss my road bike! None of my current bikes would be very kind on my rear end logging that many miles.
