Bodie and Back
Sunday 03.17.13
We headed for Bodie on Sunday, planning to ride through town and head for Bridgeport, CA for lunch and fuel, then head back. We left Stagecoach at 9:00 am then went to Silver Springs and on to Fort Churchill. We have everyone now. XR4, DRZ, and two XRL's. Weeks bridge, follow the rail road tracks to Wabuska, cross US95A, on the Pony Express Trail, south on the pole line road to Yerington. Top off gas tanks. Gone 60 miles so far. Back out to the pole line, south through Pumpkin Hollow, Santa Margarita Ranch, Rafter 7 Road, East Walker Road, Flying M Ranch, over the river, Aldrich Grade, intersection of Road 199 and Road 028, south to Bodie Creek Road, over the bridge, up the canyon we find mud and a little snow, CA/NV stateline, next stop a locked gate. Rats. No Bodie today. Back down the canyon to the intersection, west on Road 028 to SR 338, north to Road 050, left turn, Desert Creek, back on SR 338 to SR 208 to the Buckboard General Store in Smith Valley, NV. Gas, cheese burgers and fries for all. 191 miles since home. The grill closes at 5:00 pm on Sundays, its 4:30 pm by now. Artisia Road, Churchill Canyon, Fort Churchill, single track over Churchill Butte, Misfit Flat, dirt to within 200 yards of my driveway. 7:30 pm shut the bike off. 263 miles, about 50 of them slab, fast pace, large fun. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
