Large ADV bike handle bars

Hi all,
I'm looking for replacement handle bars for my Supertenere 1200.
I spend a lot of time off road and the stock bars are to road bikish for me.
I tried a set of Pro Taper contour fat bars off my CRF 450 but the control area of the bar is too short to bolt on clutch/ brake
before it goes down into the bar bend....
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Take a look at the bars WASP uses on his S-10. His build up is in his first thread, which was moved Vendors. I think that they were SW Motech, but I'm not sure. Very robust, anti-vibration, dirt-worthy configuration and lots of control space.

By the way, Pro Taper has various models of bars that vary in length of center and end sections. Their website is pretty good and has dimensions. Carmichael bend with risers might work.

I use Protaper 7/8" KX Hi on my 'Strom and DRZ. They were the widest and flatest of all of the ones I checeked. I have them mounted on risers, because they are pretty low compared to the stock bars. Many people use the ATV bars. They are a bit taller, and not too bad. I considered the ATV Mids, but am happy with the KXs.

Same here. 7/8" KX Hi on my DRZ 1" risers and Contour KX Hi with 2" Rox pivoting risers on the Tenere. All the controls fit just fine on the Tenere. You will have to buy some inserts that go into the bars so you can mount up the bar end weights and hand guards.

I had to get longer bolts to work with the inserts too. The stock bars have a threaded insert welded to the very end of the bar.

I run CR Honda Hi bars and a 19mm Zeta riser on my WeeStrom which should be similar in terms of space needed. I actually prefer steel bars as a crash with a bike this heavy (and with tough bars) could easily snap the upper triple clamp or those long bolts on your bar risers. I would rather have the cheap bars bend first.

It's surprising how few good choices there are for the big bikes like the GS. You'd think with all the falling people do, replacing bars would be a yearly occurrence, and there would be a good aftermarket for them. I bought some protaper bars, but I don't like the bend, and they're a pita to put on, needing holes drilled in them, etc.

If I was in the business of bike parts, I would see this as an opportunity area.
