I take my 650GS thumper off road from time to time. Knobbies, a tooth down in front and two up in back help a lot.

Indeed, I have. To great comedic effect.

[QUOTE=MikeMike;20147909]I bet that a helluva lot of F800's spend their time sitting all farkled up in a Starbuck's parking lot with some clever little Ewan and Charlie stickers on them.

The F650 is capable off road and a lot more capable than some people imagine.

Here are a pair at about 14,000ft. Let's see some pics of an F800 at that elevation on that terrain, past a tree line.

Well, here you go. This is the view, from above Wolf Creek Pass, CO. (Continental Divide) @ 13,000 Ft+.

The high mountain passes are what make riding in Colorado so much fun for me. A new Backcountry Discovery Route was recently mapped out here, from Cortez to Steamboat. I'll be doing that as soon as I can, next year.

Bmw in their great wisdom has now created 2 completely different F650s in their lifetime. The F650gs thumper (2007 and prior) and the F650 twin (2008-present), even though it is an 800cc motor. To make it even more complicated, in 2009 BMW reintroduced the 650gs thumper but gave it a g classification, G650gs, and in 2013, the F650 twin is now called the F700 (even though it is 800 cc). Can BMW make it more convoluted? Heck, they even screw up insurance companies and BMVs with their stupid classifications.

the f700 was a good way for them to make more money. the differences between the a 2012 f650gs and a 2013 f700 are a few horsepower for the f700, 20ish lbs with the f700, a different front fairing, and $1000 more for a base model f700. otherwise they are the same bike.
