Bought my new 2009 12GS just before I turned 50. Still have it at 52 (almost 53!) and love it.
It's supposed to warm up to 57 this weekend. Think I'll go for a long ride.

I had wanted a GS since I read a newspaper article with a big picture of Gaston Rahier in the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1985. I was 24 at the time. I finally visited a BMW dealer in early 1995 and knew I'd have a GS some day. I lusted after a Ducati E900 briefly, but got a 93 R100GS that December. I wish I'd have kept that one. But, my R1100GS is better in most ways.

ALMOST 2/3 of the owners are in the 40 to 59 range. I wonder if it has anything to do with discretionary income?
On my 5th BMW in 35 years, 3rd GS... 1100, 1150, 1200 Only airhead was an R100S and one flying brick. I'll be 63 in a couple of days. A youngster

here's the final answer:
after 350+ responses...it appears that the average age has stabilized at 48.8... SEE POST #7 FOR DETAILS. LaurelPerryOnLand screwed with this post 12-02-2012 at 08:03 AM |

I wonder if the avg. age would rise if the poll showed 70+ and 80+.

Funny you should ask...
If I changed the average age of the 60+ group from 65 to 70 to 75, here are the results:
65...48.8 (current answer) 70...49.6 75...50.3 So...not that much of a change. Agree? |

Guess I'm confused. I clicked on 60+. How would you account for my real age? I know some 80+ who clicked on 60+.

Marty...
For each of the age groups (20-29) you have to give a 'mid point, in this case 25 for the calculations. For the 60+ group I had ORIGINALLY established '65' as the mid point for the calculations. However...per your question...I made 2 additional scenarios...and allowed the midpoint to change to 70 and 75 resulting in the answers above. Look at the Excel spreadsheet in my post above and maybe this will become clearer. Post #7 Mid points are shown in Column F. Still clear as mud? Agree...OP could have included a 70+ and 80+ choice to get more precise answer...but he/she didn't. |

"Who's a GS owner?"
The wording of the question, along with the search for the nature and age of those who own them, reminded me of this meme;
