23 May 2012 Day tour to Alpes-de-Haute-Provence

The day starts with the best weather conditions, sunshine and much appetite for adventure and driving on the roads of wine and lavender.

Our destination is the Gorges du Verdon or Grand canyon du Verdon.
We begin our ascent from the village Rians-Vinon sur Verdon.

We stopped at the gas station to refuel.Beside was a workshop.I decided to take the chance to confer with French.I walked into the shop and wanted a wrench to tighten the chain.I began my multinational dialect but in vain.I wanted a "wrench".
We went out and with sign language,I gave him to understand what I want to do.He helped to fix it without any churge. He was very kind and polite. It is not necessary to speak all the lunguges. Some times you can make it with sigh-body lunguage.

The route continues through Manosque (Manosk), across National and River Durance, where D6 leads to the plateau Valensole (Valansol). The eponymous town celebrates its own harvest lavender on the third Sunday of July, when the streets are filled with folk dancers, local bands and people do ride with old carriages in the fields. Here the landscape changes. Endless lavender bushes until the distant horizon gaze stops ridges of the Alps of Haute-Provence
We began to see the land with lavenders bloom but as we said early July to mid-August. Then it is the best time for someone to wander the area following the paths of lavender ..
These are the images that you see if you go on those dates in Provence.

We saw the following.

In the area of Valensole.

We follow the road to Riez.We make a short stop in the village with Roman ruins and the House of Bees.

Moving towards Moustiers Sainte Marie. The village is located next to a river is green and full of flowers.

Followed immediately Gorge Verdon, (in French: Gorges du Verdon).
The Grand Canyon of Europe.

In Valensole we stopped at a farmer's market for some shopping and souvenir. We bought a juicy rotary spit chicken ,some tomatoes and a few buns and sat down by the roadside next to a creek and we did the best lunch of all our tour.
Value, priceless.

We continued our tour leading up to Castellane.

Following the Route Napoleon. via Col de Val Ferrière.

The Col de la Faye

We arrive at the famous Grasse , the famous city of perfumery.
Known by the film adaptation of the famous book "Perfume" by Patrick Ziskint.
Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer.

To be refreshing little guys ...

Where do we go now? ......!!!!!

Browse through the narrow streets of Grasse

One of the worst cities we visited.Much moisture, mold and dirt.Did not random famous for its perfumes!!!!
After Grasse, followed by the famous Cannes.

The main port is not able to reach a top and fell at Cannes.

Generally not impressed with the opulence so there Cannes. In the current route that I liked was the Grand Canyon du Verdon.
If you find yourself in these places do not miss it..

24 May 2012 France to Italy

Today we depart from France and drive to Italy. For us ,Italy is like a second home because we visit it every year.
We start from Trets with good weather contitions. We did not know what awaited us below. We choose to avoid Cannes and Antibes and go from Nice.

Upon entering in Nice we found enough traffic.Difficult to drive in central locations with an overload motorbike.Nice, is the largest city of the French Riviera, and is one of the most beautiful regions. The famous beach along the promenade, the famous hotels, the beautiful old town make it very special.

Ι parked hardly in a small narrow street and we wandered in the central market.

Massena Square is the main square of Nice.

By 1979 a part of the homonymous casino demolition which gave more space on the same square.
Throughout the course of history the particular square point was political gatherings and cultural festival venue for parties and gatherings.

Furthermore is the part where culminated military parade on July 14, which is a national holiday in France.
The round buildings that are influenced by Italian architecture

We bought Soaps, flavored lavender, from a street market in Nice.

Sweets impressed us very much but due to lack of space we could not get some.

The clock shows us that we have to leave because we waited more adventures during the day.
10:30 French time.

Departing from Nice.

We leave Nice and go to the principality of Monaco.

Our entrance to Monte Carlo (Monte Carlo).
The most famous tourist resort, with its famous casino and racetrack for Formula 1 races held in the city.

When we arrived we realize that the center of Monte Carlo was close for the free trials.

Within a mess of police, signs, motorbikes, automobiles, cranes gather bikes, heat and overload I saw "everything" as we say in my country.

In vain we tried to park somewhere.
We decided to leave without manage to wander downtown.

Limo everywhere and mini van to transport VIP.

Awesome combination though. The Cannes center was closed because of the gold palm festival.
Monte Carlo center was also closed because of the grand prix ...we decide that we will not try to reach the San Remo because the song festival took place.

At least we took some photos to remember our adventure and our pass from those famous city's.

From Menton,we drive up to the bridge in order to enter the autostrata.

We enter Italy just like that,no boarder control ,,,nothing....nada.

Our destination was the Savona we had booked through Booking in a beachfront motel but we arrived too early and we did not want to stay in that area.We like to stay close to Toscana area because tomorrow we had to participate in the v-strommers national meeting.
After we explained the lady in the reception why we did not want to stay ,she offered to us not charge cancellation fees and she call Booking in order to declare the cancellation. Luckily for us because we spared 80 euros penalty.
We left Savona and before Genoa we entered a sudden storm. From the get in get out the tunnels we could not understand from where that storm comes.
After that adventure ,we got off Genoa on the Italian Riviera coast and specifically in Rapallo.

Portofino.

From Rapallo went out to the exit for autostrata.

Driving in autostrata we chose to exit to Marina di Carrara and began searching for a hotel.
Having looked for about 10 minutes we found a very good hotel in Marina di Massa with 60 euros B & B.
Once we settled and after 520 km, we went to eat at a nice restaurant, "Ristorante Ippopotamus".
We drink 4 large beers and ate the best pasta of many times we come to Italy.
After the amazing dinner we slept like dead.We need to be rested for the Raduno.
