The Snowy Mountain fire tower is located on either Snowy Mountain Tower Road or Currans Road or Chimney Rock Road, north of the intersection of Snowy Mountain Road, Swift Run Road and Rothrock Road, I not sure what the actually name of that road is and it's another of the normally gated roads in southern Michaux that are open during the fall only.

Michaux is not closed due to weather.

I'm just starting at the north end, where Ridge Rd climbs up from the parking lot by the creek at Mt Holly.

Damn! Fog keeps misting up my face shield, so I stopped to clear it.

A little higher, and the clouds break!

Eventually I have to drop back down into that, in the Cumberland Valley.

But I cross over through the state park to the southern side side.

Mud isn't bad at all. Piney Mountain facing west. The gate is open on the east side of PineGrove Furnace Road, but I'll leave the hunters in peace.

I head down the mountain to the Elkhorn Inn in Bendersville for a burger and coffee, but it's closed. I settle for Mexican sausage and scrambled eggs at Tania's Mexican restaurant out on PA34.



Chores require my return to civilization. But it was a nice little escape. I'll cut over to Whiskey Springs Road towards Boiling Springs on that gravel road. Can't recall the name.

I pulled the RV out to soon this year. This is prime time to tour Michaux on my Husky. But I needed to get some warranty work done on the RV so its done. There is always next year. See you guys and girls around Fishing Season.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'll give Tania's a 3. It isn't easy to find really good Mexican food in Pennsylvania.

The Elkhorn Inn in "downtown" Bendersville is a cool place to stop for a bite when riding in the northern end of Michaux.



At Pine Grove Furnace, take Pine Grove Furnace Road from the ironmaster's mansion, pass the campground, cross Piney Mountain Ridge Road and Coon Road and continue to the dead-end at Bendersville-Wenksville Road where you take a left. Ride a couple miles into town. Food is basic home-cooking but varied. The interior will surprise you; the original structure is an old log building and the chinked walls are exposed inside.



Be aware that it is closed from 11AM-5PM on Saturdays. I should have photographed the hours that were on the door.

No need to wait until Spring. The riding is just fine in Michaux right now.

I must admit, the snow was deeper than I expected and the tire tracks were a touch icy. Made for an interesting ride. I did manage to keep the rubber side down at all times.
