Side stand mounting
went to one of the UK bike shows at the NEC Saturday and took this photo - it looked better on the small screen but at least gives you an idea if this has not already been covered else where. I'm sure it doesn't make a difference but this was on the "R".

Good luck on that. Those sand cast mounting towers look like a failure waiting to happen. That pipe doesn't look like it is giving to much room either, but these problems may just be because the photo shot angle, can't see the other side; have fun .Paul

I think it answered the big question though. TBH it's probably a stock RC8 bottom end - so if someone has one of those they could probably show us what the back end looks like. cheers Markie

my local KTM dealer in Czech republic said that he still didn't get the final price yet, but it will be slightly higher (around 300-500 higher) then 990. other info he said was:
1. 990 will not be produced any more, it will be sold for around 6 more month 2. smaller v-twin adventure bike for solo riding with minimum electronics and blings is coming in next 2-3 years and for the city of cca. 100k citizens he already got 2 pre-orders on 1190

As a non KTM rider (nearly 990 owner) thought i would comment on both,
A mate and I test rode a 990 adv twice (this is '08 by the way) in isolation what a hoot, he bought a GS and I a Tiger 1050, looking deeper the 990 didn't handle as well, weaved at speed, brakes were only adequate, service intervals were too short and costly with all that bodywork and at the time rumours of reliability issues, The new one appears to have addressed these issues and I'm really looking forward to a test ride, the price did shock me and i do agree there may be room for the 990 (perhaps not in the UK) but it is competitive, my GS riding mate has put a deposit on a 2013 GS but after going to the NEC is also going to do the same with the 1190, which surprised me, so maybe KTM's stratergy is working, the "old" 990 is an iconic shape but the new bike is still IMO a true KTM, companies have to progress, the 990 is a "marmite" and like i said earlier if it wasn't for the few shortcomings i would be riding one so i'm hoping they can entice me back this time around, |

At the NEC KTM were taking test ride bookings for March which seems about right. Supply the people taking a punt up front, then get the testers out there for the rest who can afford them[1].
cheers Markie [1] just showing my hand that I can't afford one :)
