Rooney exhaust collector/muffler

This is a Rooney creation -- under-frame muffler for offroad airheads. Anybody ever make one of these, or have drawings/ideas?

I was looking into this a while back and wanted to copy a quat-D Ex-box like this:

I'd be surprised if this is computer modeled, but still interesting to see (not actually sure if image will work, so I'm linking the post after, which Airhead Wrangler did):

Unfinished and kinda ugly, but interesting to see the inside of a silencer. Is the Rooney aluminum or stainless? I can't really tell. Alu would be pretty nice.

Rooney's is stainless. Given where it sits, alu wouldn't withstand any bumps.

I've seen that link, but the collector is in the frame, for "over the top" pipes. I want to make one under the frame, behind the gearbox.

collector box

I would do this in stainless in a flash if I had not already made one in alloy. My 17 peice exhaust mimics the high pipes used by the gold metal winning bikes built by Herbert Schek in the 1973 ISDT. photos coming, I promise. I used two sets of stock head pipes to make up all of the bends. I made all of the peices and had a buddy tig it all together as I only have a 40 year old buzzbox, and a $125 mig.

You're talking about one of the in-frame collectors, right? For the reversed pipes?

That wouldn't do for my project since it would put form over function. I'm not going to be doing enduro racing.

Ok, I just thought it might be a good example of what it could look like. And considering skid plates are often aluminum, and there are ones that double as tool boxes maybe it would work. If weight isn't an issue, then sure, stainless is the way to go.

Plus...I'm not set up to weld aluminum. Would have to be stainless...extra few pounds.

That'll do it. And a few pounds down there won't mean a whole lot, I suppose.

Since it's an enclosed part, it's easy enough to purge it. It'll give you stronger welds. Or get some of this stuff:

I assume I'm right that this box should not be made of mild steel...? Condensation would sit in there and rot it out...?
