Yup. Most likely an 83-85. The left peg plate is an early one that has larger two M8 bolts for mounting the exhaust instead of the hanger used on later bikes..

Wow, I've just got the end of this thread, It's only taken a couple of weeks! Some really lovely examples which have given me lots of inspiration and provoked a lot of thought as to what direction to go with my K100.
It's an ex UK Police bike that has now done 140K and never let me down. I've done the last 40K. It's a daily ride in all weathers, I don't own a car.

The biggest job was a clutch replacement about 10K ago. It's one of a batch of bikes the police held back and registered later, mine is on a 92 plate but is 8valve with the 2 piece mudguard and brace and had the abs removed at the polices request I'm lead to believe. If anyone has any further information on this I'd be very interested to hear.

First, welcome.

UK police spec bikes got the 'S' type forks with integral brace before the 16-Valve models because the un-braced versions blew seals so often.

I don't think that any police force in the UK had a policy of holding back bikes, it's more that bikes (and cars) were batch purchased and only registered when they were needed. Sometimes this might be as much as a couple of years later.

As for the ABS, I doubt that it was removed by the force in question. The only issues with police-spec ABS bikes occurred early in the supply. It was found that the police radio could trigger the ABS. All ABS equipped bikes were recalled by BMW and modified to prevent this but they retained the ABS.

Your bike has been fitted with the very early K100 seat and tail unit with the pillion grab handles in the seat as opposed to the tail unit.

Hello from the Netherlands, i've been reading up for weeks now in this topic and would like to share my little project(-start).

Bought it like this:




The fork legs were leaking, good start for some pearl blasting, first cleaning up all the parts.




At the current part the removed the mounting of the heat shield, which I found ugly so bought a replacement.


Doesn't look like a nice one but after some well deserved love and attention..



In the mean time, look at the result of the pearl blasting!




I've powdercoated the wheels in something that looks like chrome.



I love polishing so I decided to polish up some parts.






How does that look huh?

You know it's funny about some of these custom K bikes. Personal preference, but it seems like the industrial/post apocalyptic customs seem to come out better than the cafe-type customs. There just seems to be something about the lines and mechanicals of the K bikes that seem to lend them more to a futuristic or industrial look than a flowing artistic look. Again, that's my opinion and certainly other folks preferences can differ.

I'm no lover of chromed wheels but I like this:



as it's more of a satin finish.


A few days ago, my nephew's (new to him) K75S was delivered for me to give it some attention:



It's a genuine low mileage (sub 16,000) 1991 bike but it's been badly treated cosmetically. Someone has daubed black paint over the original and over the dirt that was there at the time:



Today I took it for a spin to see what other than the cosmetics needs attention and have begun the strip down:

Huh? Those S forks were never used on 4V bikes. All 4V bikes have the larger diameter forks with mounting for the four pot calipers.
