hey now

Goodness ladies control yourselves! In a million years I wouldn't have imagined that my RR would include a dozen naked male Icelandic mountain guides. Well something for everyone in this RR.

And if the female guides at Sólheimajökull do in fact step up, my recommendation would be that they one up their male colleagues and pose on some motorcycles. I'm sure the folks at Biking Viking would step up and provide the bikes if needed. And it would only be fitting to post the first picture here…

Well I'll say this - at least you are headed in the right direction with this picture. What is she holding on to?

Translation of text?

We loved Iceland and I was jealous of people touring on motorcycles.

Won't go into what she is holding on to. The bike belongs to a friend of mine. The text loosely translates as "Old farts motorcycle club."

wow, just wow ! Beautiful photos of an enchanting country, almost seemingly mythical. I could live there, were I ever to be so fortunate......

Sweeet ride report. Memories last a lifetime. This is on my list, hopefully this coming summer. How far out did you book the bikes? A source for your trip guide? Maps you liked? I'm in...

Frábćrt!

I'm an Icelandic citizen, living in sunny California these days. Warms my heart to see someone fall in love with my little island. I took a friend a similar route as you guys went a couple of summers ago, it was a great experience seeing Iceland through his eyes, its easy to take what you grow up with for granted. The more I travel the more I realize what a unique place it is. We also used Eythor at Biking Viking, he's a really good guy.

Next time, make sure you go see Skagastrond btw. Hallbjorn Hjartarson, the country singer you mentioned is actually my great uncle and is worth a visit. If you have a radio you'll pick up his station when you get close to town, even as you drive by Blonduos on the circle road. His restaurant Kantrybaer (Countrytown) makes half decent grub. They also have artists from all over the world in residence at the old freezing plant in town. Kinda cool.

Anyways, thanks for a great RR, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Takk takk!

Thumb Been there too.....loved it and want to go back.

This is a great RR. I was there in 2001 for a NATO mission. Spent most of the summer there. I didn't get a chance to ride but I did rent a "medium sized" car, or so they told me. It was a Yaris. By the time we put two of normal size Americans in it, we were shoulder to shoulder almost. No power or comfort but we had a great time touring around the southern part of the country. I did manage to find the northern most HD dealer at that time. Got the requisite T-shirt and appropriate stuff for home and bragging rights with my buds. I would love to go back someday. The scenery was beautiful and the country was very US friendly. Thanks for sharing the report with us. It's on my list.
Ken
