Oil Filters
Looking for an oil filter other than the BMW specified item, my local dealer is out of stock and seemed very expensive too.
I have read that the BOSCH 3330 and K&N-164 work on the R1200GS, can anyone specify other makes and numbers please, I'd like to visit a local filtration outfit to try and match something up. Unfortunately the BMW part number was of no help to them but I'm hoping to suggest a few other makes so they can provide an alternative.Thank you. |

I use the K&N 164 on R1200GS without any problems.
Another source often used: http://www.beemerboneyard.com/11427673541mk.html More options: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthread...975#Post298975 Oil Filter and Other Alternative Parts from the Master: http://www.jimvonbaden.com/BMW_Alter...arts_List.html Also...you can use the SEARCH function for "Oil Filters" and you'll return LOTS of threads with cross references. Local bloke round here keeps Mahe filters, made in Austria. Number is 306 from memory. I know it's the same for my GSA and an F800gs. Lots cheaper than original, and this bloke actually wants my business........don't get me started. Nurse, nurse time for my medication, and a rerun of Flying High.

We use a ton of Wix filters at work. I work on everything on from heavy equipment to small welders and forklifts.
Try this http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/App...aspx?Section=6 Let me know how it works. Wix also makes filters for Napa

That Bosch D3330....exact same filter as the Purolator PureOne PL10241. Made in the same factory.
Maybe not for the OP but I buy mine at K-mart. Also saw them on the shelves at Freddie Meyer for the Westcoasters.

I'm sold on the K&N, no more filter wrench BS since it has a nut on the end of it.

Give it a good solid tap with a hammer to seat it... BEFORE you attached a handle to the socket. That way..the socket is less likely to slip off the filter when turning. Also...open ended wrenches are not recommended...by me! Don't ask me how I know this! |
