We take it on vacation. Easy to carry, keeps the 8yo occupied anywhere.

By the title, I'm assuming this is the Nexus 7 thread, even though it hasn't been bumped in awhile. I bought a 32g wifi only version a couple days ago for $238 locally. I've been impressed so far. A friend bought one about the same time, and we've both been trying to get his set up for a an eminent trip to Argentina. It's been pretty fun. He'll have an apartment with internet when he's in Buenos Aires. Looks like it's $0.01 a minute for him to call back to the US with it, and $0.02/min to call an Argentinian land line number with Google Voice and the Talkatone app. Still figuring out how to make the books readable offline. It would be nice to figure out a way to have some kind of micro USB OTG dongle that would allow for connection to a RJ45 (wired Ethernet) and charging at the same time for when wireless isn't available. I'm still learning the device, any tips?

'pin' it by clicking the thumb tack icon. The same for movies and music.

I settled on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7 from Costco for $185 and have been using it a LOT more than I thought I would. More bang for the buck and I was able to try it before I bought it, bonus.

I got one about a month ago. Basically replaced my MacBook when traveling or lounging on the couch. Perfect size - I ditched a 32gb Xoom because it was a bit unwieldy.

Thanks! I bought a Ethernet adapter and USB host cable (which it should come with) from Amazon. it's a shame they don't have 'Y" cable so it can be charged at the same time. Google Voice calls, using the talkatone app, works really well. Standby battery life seems excellent.

I use mine along with the Dual Sport Maps App instead of a GPS.

Got about three rides with it and it worked great

To make a gps app work on an iPad, you must have the Wi-Fi plus Cellular version. Apparently it uses the cellular hardware to connect with the gps satellites.

Is this also true with the Nexus, or can you get the Wi-Fi only version?

It's not that you need the cellular network to use the GPS. It's that the wifi only iPads don't come with a GPS chip.

To use ANY of the tablets, phones etc where there is not cell signal you just need to download all the maps first so they don't have to load from the net.
