It comes with a USFS spark arrestor and multiple baffle tubes so you can make it quiet or louder. When my bike rolls out of the garage in the spring it will have one. |

Hole location for Torsion spring
Here is a pic of the hole that was drilled for the spring. The hole looks to be at about 8:00 oclock.
But 7:30 was the recommended location in 2008, and now with the latest springs it is recommended to be at just a bit past 6:00 o clock. ![]() I talked to Eagle Mike about it and he said it could have broke from being over tensioned or damage from installation if the wrong tools were used. So, I am going to drill a new hole at just past 6 o clock. |

New Torsion spring installed
For those not familiar with it, this is how it should be attached.

Your first post in this thread really says a lot. Values to be admired. Nice to see so much positivity here ... as opposed to that god awful KLR HP thread. Some real KLR haters showed up there ... true Trolls. Worst of ADV Rider. Your thread is the opposite!
I'm a DR650 rider but have owned two KLR's in the past (an '85 KLR600 and '98). I recently spent a couple hours on a buddies very well set up '09 KLR. It was a nice surprise. I like my DR650 (well modified) but I could easily be seduced by the much better looking KLR. (I prefer the NEW style). Lots of temptation out there regards new bikes ... but I too must reduce debt and expenses. Any extra money ... and free time ... has to go into actually doing the riding, which to me ... is what it's all about. RIDE RIDE RIDE!! All the best with your new bike ! it's a beauty!

Deep hole fix
While I was in here correcting the Torsion spring I also needed to address the deep Hole issue that affects all 2008 and alot of 2009 bikes.
If you are unaware of this, Google it ,and you will find all the info about it. You can see in the pic, the odd bushing wear at the bottom right of one of the bushings that the pin sets in that supports one of the starter gear transfer clusters. ![]() Basicly, the hole in the outet cover is too deep, which allows the pin to go into it to far and not support the gear cluster on the inside properly, so you have to put a spacer in the hole in the cover to prevent it. Alot of people use various things but Eagle Mike has the proper spacer so I just got one from him. |

So anything above 2010 is not affected by the hole?

But it is a very simple fix, you only have to pull the outer cover and put the spacer in the hole. |

![]() I have been leaning this way for several years. Resisting the urge to replace my KLR with something newer, fancier and more expensive. In the end a well set up KLR gets the job done just fine for me. |

I rode a buddy's 2008 just like yours - well, except it was stock (but with Kawasaki-replaced rings to fix the oil issue). I was surprised at how much more neutral and comfortable the bike was compared to my DR650. I can see the KLR's ergonomics easily making a prior GSA-rider happy... and that whole package you bought really making anyone happy.
