BMW Battery charger on 05 GS?

I bought myself a new to me 2005 1200gs this summer and now as winter is approaching I am curious about my BMW battery charger.

I have previously owned an 05 650cs and a R1200c and have used the same charger for both. I just plug it in to the external port and leave for the winter.

Now that I have the 05 gs with the CANBUS system, I am wondering if my battery charger will work the same way? Can I just plug it in to the external port like the other two bikes, or does the CANBUS change my charging options?

Also, the previous owner added an additional outlet to the bike as well and I am not sure which outlet is the original. Does it matter (they are both linked to the battery)?

I purchased this charger in 2007 and as far as I can tell is the same as this one

Thanks for any help.

I cannot tell you anything about the charger you have, but I can tell you that if you trace the wires form the second socket and see they go straight to the battery, use that socket.

Yep, I have an '05 GS, '04 CS, '06 K1200S and an '07 XChallenge. The BMW charger with the plug works equally well on all of them. You're good to go.

Good Stuff

Thanks very much for the help.

Just in time too, as the weather dipped into the low teens for the first time last night and looks like riding days are about to get slim.
