Next clue. There was a fort here. and,,, this two lane hwy runs from the Pacific to way back East, like maybe Detroit.

Well, Rt. 12 goes all the way to Detroit, and Fort Fizzle is on Rt. 12, and is not far from the path of the Lake Missoula flood, and Lewis & Clark of course went right through there, so my guess is Lolo.

Not Camas. Hwy 14 doesn't even go all across WA.
Another pic will probably give it away. I'll wait a bit. Elevation of this small town is 400ft. Population 200. A new Post Office. I think there is, or was, a store.

Wallula is correct.
 Wallula Gap from the south. Hard to believe this was a bottle neck for the Missoula Floods. Supposedly the water was flowing ove the top of those hills.
