GS 17 Inch Wheel Conversion

Looking for information for converting the R1200GS 19 inch front wheel to a 17 inch. Also the rear to a wider 5.5 for a 180. I don't do off road riding so I want more yire options for the street and track.
Thanks for any help!

The easiest way to do this on the 1150's is to bolt up a set of RT (or R) wheels. I suspect that the 1200 is the same.

Thanks...it is starting to sound like the R1200RT/R is a simple wheel swap. Transfer the rotors and ABS ring and bolt it on.

Search this topic in the GS forum...I think there is more to it than that. The rear needs to be offset or milled in some way, IIRC...

Sounds like the guys that want to lower 4WD SUVs.

Guess it's OK to have a lowrider contingent here.

I have two sets of spoked wheels (one on road with Anakees and one off road with TKCs) and the 19" front is a compromise size. I have been thinking about getting one converted to a Woody's 21" for off road/gravel travel and getting a 17" from an RT for on road touring.

The wire wheels are pretty heavy. Compared to my buddy's MS12, my rear with tire is at least 50% heavier and he has a much wider tire .
