By a pretty good margin, most NC teams don't "back into" a NC.

No one backed into the MNC....It's based on polls at the end of the season. No such thing as a real NC in division I college football anyway....Where do you get 17? You have to be VERY liberal with your choosing of which poll results you use to get that number. You really can only go back as far as the 1998 season with the creation of the BSC and inclusion of all of the major players into the MNC game in this case.

I only count 6 match ups of undefeated teams. So I'll concede that 9/15 may not be "almost always", so let's just agree on "usually".

I don't think that NFL results matter in this dicussion. To my eyes Tebow was the most dominating college player since Herchell Walker....and had 3 great seasons a starter and one as a freshman specialist on a MNC team.

Johnny Football had an amazing freshman season let's give him a couple more years to see where he ends up in college football legend. The pressure will be very high on him so he has a very difficult task.

Speaking of six footers, Fran Tarkenton had a pretty good career. Nine Pro Bowls and three trips to the SB.

Johnny Football reminds me a lot of Tarkenton.
Like you said about RG3, that type of QB might shake things up in the NFL.

You say you are located in Canada, hence the Canadian football reference. If you aren't in Canada, where are you?

And, I didn't use polls, those were actual records, and truth be told, I only used final results and did not take into account 2 undefeated teams playing each other. So, I guess we're moving from "almost always, to "usually", to "hardly ever".

Your original premise was that Alabama backed into the game because others lost. 9 out of 15 times at least one participant had at least one loss....that's most of the time. That's all.

Oregon had a tough loss, but KSU lost to a terrible team with no defense. I don't feel a bit sorry for them.

NBC Sports Network is likely to be approached to gauge its interest in such a property.

In order to form such a league, however, UConn and Cincinnati would have to make some sort of profound commitment -- perhaps even a “grant of rights” similar to the Big 12’s, meaning they’d lose their media revenue for the length of time if they leave -- to convince the Western schools involved that they would not exit immediately if invited to join the ACC.

That could become leverage to convince current members of the ACC -- especially some of its more vulnerable longtime schools, such as Duke and Wake Forest, to invite Cincinnati and UConn now and bring the current conference membership to 16.

Because at some point, perhaps soon, the Devils, Deacons and one or two others might be left behind as ACC core members with more football power (Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech), larger fan bases (North Carolina, NC State, Virginia) and bigger markets (Georgia Tech) are swept up by the far-richer Big Ten and SEC and the slightly richer Big 12.

There is no short of awareness inside the ACC that such possibilities exists.

They’ll have Syracuse, Pitt and Louisville to help keep them company if several members depart, but would that be enough?

If they can get UConn and Cincinnati at a discount, why not move now?

Should the “Transcontinental Conference” became a reality, it would include three former NCAA basketball champions (UConn, Cincinnati, UNLV) and two others with multiple Final Four appearances (Memphis, Temple). Plus, UConn, Cincinnati and Boise State have all made BCS bowl games in the past five seasons.

Travel would be an obvious hassle for all involved, particularly in regards to non-revenue sports, but options are not plentiful for those teams that either have been in the Big East for years or were planning to join in the near future

I know my schools are relegated to the B leagues. I want them to be "my" B leagues. I want to play ColoSt, AFA, Wyo every year. I don't give a shit about South Florida, Memphis or Temple... etc.

The whole BCS thing is a proven failure. The AQ deal is a complete fiasco. Eventually it's going to come down to 4 or 5 super conferences. But for most it's going to be feast or famine, the disparity is going to get larger IMO. As of now you have the SEC, B1G, PAC, and Longhorn league, then everyone else is out in the cold.

Seems to be happening in other sports as well. Most notably in PAC 12 basketball, which has only 1 ranked team in the Top 25, Arizona, #8. What's up with PAC 12 sports?

Interesting to see what Boise State does. The big "AQ" move has turned out to be more of a lateral shuffle only two time zones away. Lots of rumors and grumbling out here.
