Lots of nice pics of the Big Island. My better half and I lived there for about 5 years. There were only a couple of points on the downside about living there. 1) There is a limited amount of roads to ride and they all eventually go in circles (on the plus side its hard to get lost) 2) lots of rain (on the plus side fewer showers are needed) 3) fuel cost is high (on the plus side bikes get good mph) 4) many good views (no down side). Before going over I rode many miles in Mexico. While doing that I learned to ride with what I thought were the most dangerous drivers possible -- I wasn't prepared for Hawaiian drivers. Mexicans are just crazy drivers, Hawaiian drivers are poor at best, on either ice, pakalolo or liquor most of the time.
I did lots of riding and survived. I did many circles around the island. Alas we both survived and are now back in Texas where we belong.

![]() Hawaii was the last state I took my 2002 Honda Shadow 750 to. And after a lot of logistical research, I was able to ship it to Oahu and tour the island for a week. This is one of my favorite pics. I got the security lady there to take the photo. She wasn't going to let me ride on the sidewalk but I begged; telling her I shipped my motorcycle just for this photo op. The Pearl Harbor memorial was breathtaking. Took the new Strom 'round the island yesterday for some break in miles. I know, tough job but someone has to do it.

We've added a DRZ400 to expand our ever growing variety. Super fun bike on the island!

I couldn't agree more! This is fun and probably the most versatile overall bike I've owned to date. I do have some issues at elevation that I need to resolve but other than that, I'm lovin' it.
My obligatory photo of the day:

Great thread!
I had no idea there was a dualsport rental outfit on the big island! Was there a few months ago and borrowed a friends airhead GS. What an amazing place to ride! See you next year.
