E12GL bulb, I have mine in hand to double check. W5W bulb should be found at any automotive place, also go by T10 wedge bulbs.

Sorry, Iam really sorry and dont want to be offensive but I dont get this
.We all know what for forums are but is it really necessary to start a thread ..... what sort of bulb is in my licence plate light? What about to take a screw driver and have a look, take the blown bulb into the nearest store or a petrol station and buy one.It is just a stupid, one of the most common bulbs you can possibly imagine.Iam sure I would be able to do that whilst you were typing on your phone or whatever...Just wondering now if I became the enemy of this community after this comment .

Either will work, they are pretty much the same thing. See if they have a W5W or a 5 watt indicator bulb, a wedge bulb is the description.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt, perhaps his bulb was destroyed, perhaps it is lacking in any type of nomenclature, and honestly I have found service at many stores to be lacking so it never hurts to have the knowledge. Worst case scenario is this thread gets nuked but I bet this guy is pretty happy right now to have the information. Other sources would be any BMW dealer or even sourcing the fiche provided by MAX BMW.
http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fic...aspx?vid=51598 which states 5W wedge |

I've found on ebay, led wedge license plate lights that light up brighter than the original bulb. Just do a search on led license plate bulb.
