just a word of caution lads.

was pulled up by one of the local bikie gangs today. he suggested i change to a different kind of air if i wanted to be able to continue riding next time we meet.

just make sure whatever you use is adr compliant and you run it past your insurance company too.

I think air is old school and over rated, I have moved on.
LPG is the go it is heavier than air and the bike stays more planted on the road.
I don't need to carry a gas bottle for a cuppa I just plug the burner into the valve stem,
If the bike fails me I can blow it up.
I run with Dangerous goods signs and road users give me a wide berth like Harleys but without the price tag.
If I get a punture it acts as a refridgerant and cools me down while I fix it.
Its the BOMBget on to it!

the geographical source of your air is not only important, but also the altitude it is collected at as trace elements like ozone increase at higher altitudes. and it is the trace elements that can give you the edge over other riders in harsh conditions. here are the approximate percentages at sea level:

you'll pay a fortune for aftermarket trace element fortified air at the motorbike shops (although cheaper if bought online through the USA).

but some cheap do-it-yourself tricks including pissing in your tube for extra ammonia, farting for methane, supermarket salt for iodine, and stuffing bits of old supeman magazines in for krypton.

it's true you can break up headlight bulbs for xenon but it's hard to get it in the tube. and of course one of the benefits of global warming is the extra carbon content we can expect over the next few decades.

A quick question -if using compressed air do I have to put more in my tyres than if using expanded air? If so does anyone know the conversion ratio?

Have tried cheap Ebay air in the past but it's a waste of money - too thin. Just another cheap copy

The oxygen content of the air is very important...it provides the ability of the tyre to compress when hitting obstacles.
For this reason, I divert the exhaust gas of the RD350 for a full hour into the son's "greenhouse" in the early hours of the morning.
Later in the afternoon, I put the compressor in there and after sucking all the old air out of the tyres with the missus' Dyson, I pump them up with oxygen enriched air.
You wouldn't believe the difference that it makes

After being ripped off at the local stealership for years regarding the cost of air;
I am an convert to buying online from the USA. With our dollar running high at the moment, and the postal costs reasonable, although sometimes the shipping can be delayed at customs, so you wouldn't want to be 'holding your breath' waiting for the air.

I have bought air from the Europeans once or twice, but found it couldn't handle our hot conditions out here; although, with expansion, you get more for your dollar

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...... avoid the cheap chinese imported air... polluted to the sh*thouse.

Yeah but if you get the chinese air from ebay you can run it through an air filter, retreive all the heavy metals & sell the lead & other good stuff the the recyclers & make a fortune. Was the only way I could afford to keep the BMW going

When I was still running air, I used to nick ballons from the parties I took my kids to.

But I've gotten with the times and run Mousse in my tubes. My mate who rides a BM swears by Swartzkoph styling mousse, but he's a squareheaded airhead. I just raid whatever the missus has in the bathroom, and always carry a spare can on the bike in case I get a flat. Doubles up for helmet hair as well.

i did hear on the grape vine that some people have had waranty claims voided due to not running the oem genuine tyre inflation material
on a side note if the air in SA is so thick isn't that a good thing as you are less likely to get puncture or suffer from flat tyres

i tried mousse too but it takes ages to spoon it into the rim... and if you break the tire bead then it gets really messy. very tasty though if you don't mind licking it off the rims. i've gone back to air now.

With all this talk of the common variants that are available which mixture is best?
Metric, high altitude, Hot air
Or
Imperial, sea level, room temp.

Im tempted to go with the Mousse offering presented above but I've heard bad things about the chocolate variety. Is the banana or mango flavour available in Qld?
I've heard KTM riders prefer the mango... so it must be the best.....
