Tuareg Rally 2013 Tunisia Entries open

Hey Charlie! - you never told me you had a BRP, never mind two of them!!!

My first rally - the Tuareg in 2008 - was also on an XR650R - a bike I bought in the US in 2007 (that's a Nevada plate in the photo) and shipped back to the UK/Europe... happy days!



Looking forward to catching up with you in Tunisia then (if not before in the US) - big bikes rock!

Come join us Neil. I think Patsy and Desert Rose have rental bikes and some more room. It's gonna be a hoot!

We finished our outbound customs clearance today, with the carnet stamped, etc. Loading middle of next week. Then 1 week til Dakar, then a month off, then Tuareg.

Is it overkill to work in the Safari this year too???

Dave, Mikey and I shipped 6 bikes from Oakland today. The nice thing for the US-based competitors now is that we can't work on our bikes any more. We'll see them the day before the rally in Tunisia.

For me, prepping the XR was pretty easy. It was already set up as a decent desert bike, and the navigation equipment was ready and sitting on a shelf after the last time I used it at one of our rally schools. A few months ago, I sat down with a pad of paper, looked at the bike and made a list of things that could use fixing. Then, as the weeks went by, I looked at that list and crossed off things that I thought really weren't needed. (The closer to the shipping date, the looser the criteria for deciding what was necessary.) So, the list gradually got shorter as the bike sat in the garage. Not done: lacing up straight rims, putting on a better skidplate, new grips, bleeding the brakes, etc. Done: newish tires, mousse, chain, sprockets, front brake pads, new wheel bearings, adjust the valves and put on the too-nice new Renazco seat. Good to go.

Guys when your all said and done - can someone please tally up the total expense for the event?

My 40th is coming up in 2015 and I have already planted the seed with the wife.....

Would even consider buying a bike that would have been used in the previous 2013 rally (and maybe stored there) - to make logistics easier? I'm from Ontario Canada.
