wiring up wr300 for duel sporting

hey out there, got a plate already and duel sport kit for my wr300. I needed to rewire the thing and soder wires this time around as I had issues this last year with tail lights sometimes either faiding or connectors rusting out.
I currently run the led and tail lights off a battery. I figured while I was in there to get a voltage regulator from trailtech and hook it up to battery to charge while I was riding. Then I thought...heck cant I just skip the battery and power all led's and blinkers etc using the voltage regulator? Or would it still need to run off battery?
