I don't know on this one. It's a cylinder index - not combustion chamber index. Technically, I think it'd would count for zero as there is no actual piston and cylinder.

But, as this is about gearheads and rotary engines have that special cool factor, you can definitely count it as two. 6 may be pushing it, though.

That was a point of argument from the last thread as well. If the vehicles have a title, it has to be in your name to count.

That was a point of argument from the last thread as well. If the vehicles have a title, it has to be in your name to count.

The rotor basically functions as a three cylinder, there are three blades on it. I'd count it as three, maybe a bonus +1 for dealing with motherfucking apex seals.

....for me 14 cylinders one V-8 and two triples.

I know how a rotary works - but the point is that there is no cylinder even if air is compressed and combusted.

What if I owned a jet engine? How many cylinders is that? Do you count all the blades on the turbine since they are all involved in compressing and firing the charge?

Well,fuck yes, because if you own a jet engine, you deserve the +350 on your C.I.

And, since we're making up rules, I agree that a rotary should have a multiplier just because it's that cool. Twin rotor rotary? No reason that can't be worth as much as a V-8.

Though, I'm no expert on the rules and I don't own a rotary engine or a turbine. So, YMMV.

What an interesting idea for a thread. Lets count:

8 in the chevy
4 in the saturn
6 in the buick
1 in the KLR
1 more in the Husvarna 250
1 in the Polaris
1 son's minibike
2 motorized bikes, one cylinder each

1 more riding mower
1 chainsaw
4 in the Case 350 dozer

So grand total is 31!

I got to thinking... If a mazda rotary is worth 2-6 cylinders just because of the cool factor ( I agree) then what about some of the other cool engines? ie: flathead fords with 3-97`s or a 327 corvette with FI or maybe just about any engine over 500ci, shouldnt these be worth maybe a bonus of say 2-4 cyl? And what about a hybrid? Im thinking they may be a deduction of 6-8 cyls.

I came up with 33 - although three of these have not run in quite a while and another three may possibly never run again so I am only actively maintaining 27 - That's still a scary number and represents an investment of time I'm not always entirely comfortable with.
