You didn't have it on a RAM mount, it was on a repurposed piece of a printer. I also gave you the super-moto style front fender that you really like.

Zumos have to be one of the worst GPS's available.
276/376/478 are best. 60/76 are good. nothing else matters.

I love my 276, but I know it's days are numbered. The form factor is perfect and it has the features I need. But I am sure the problem with sales going down is the high price, and the old software. Fully kitted out, mine cost $800.
I would jump on a newer 276 if Garmin would just update the software/hardware on it. I use tracks all the time and it does not have enough track storage on it. I like making tracks on Google Earth and downloading them to the GPS and visa versa. But the 15 track limit is not enough. Does Garmin make another large screen GPS that does tracks as well as the 276, but can handle more tracks? |

Funny this topic came up when it did. My 60csx just died. Something must have finally wiggled loose inside, it won't turn on at all anymore. I really want satellite imagery, so correct me if I'm wrong the Montana is my only option? I know there is a thread on that unit but it is a mile long and I don't have that kinda time.
I only had a couple of questions. Can I use roads and rec and GPS Babel to load tracks the same way I did on my 60? Is there a limit of 20 tracks like the 60? Is the satellite imagery everything I hope it would be? |

One of the the battery contacts broke. To be honest, it kept cutting out and when I tried to bend it back into place I broke it. Anyway, it failed. I have a 14 year old eMap that I used on bikes, in a boat, and in a 4wd and it still works. The place I bought it from "hardened" it by adding silicone to some of the places that fail from vibration on handlebars... I talked to the gent that I bought the eMap from at the Long Beach bike show last week (Tom Myers of Touratech USA / Cycoactive), he suggested to just get another 76CSX off eBay, the old one isn't worth fixing. ![]() To be honest I never liked the tiny ass screen on the 76, I reckon a 276/376 would be a better replacement... Good idea Rob! Edit: I guess it's a common failure http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=828974 Maybe I should just wire USB power outlets on all my bikes... (I have them on 2 already

Heat. I've had issues with my Garmins cutting out in the desert summer heat. Have heard the same from a couple other inmates. The units just stop working. Mostly Zumos. Any similar issues with Montana or 276/376?
The units won't re-start until the temperature drops. That's a biggie that should be addressed.

Just throwing out couple ideas to get the 276 rebuild (hereafter called The Project) out of the box. It will take access to Garmin marketing managers. We need a lobbyist, it will take money to wine and dine. We need a celebrity to get behind it (sorry I'm too busy
). A Dakar guy, Baja 1000 guy, Richard Branson, CAStu, somebody. The idea must "pop". So we need our own Project marketing guy. OK, this is just a start. Add on.

Have two 478's myself, love them, bright enough to see with dark shield on and tough as nails, and I prefer buttons over touch screen.
And you are correct, there is still a HUGH market for these units, I have bought a few off craigslist, most have dead internal battery, I replace them and test the units for resale, made enough to pay for 3 sets of tires last year ![]() In fact I have a a 276C and a 478 available now, if any one is interested. |

I'm down for this and would consider... I like the Montana I bought... I don't like the weak ad card holder thin metal piece... It wiggled loose and fell off during the LAB2V. It was operator error when I tried to reinstall but that piece is soo weak. Got it fixed at home but just cheap parts.
Would really like to see a real rugged dirt bike oriented GPS whether its a 276 or whatever... Never liked the zumo and I will keep my 60 as a backup. Thought about selling it but think I will keep it for now. Where's the petition?? Lol

I mostly ride my big GS now days. If I see a dirt road I’ll take it but I see my 1200 as a pretty stupid dirt bike and I don’t run knobbies.
For me the Zumo is all about routes and it does a good job at this but I don’t think it’s a reliable unit. Well, it broke down once in 5 years but still it is an expensive unit and Garmin won’t repairer it any longer. Luckily I was able to fix it I see the routes as suggestions, not something I must follow. I use auto routing all the time. I may have a target in mind I want to get too but I select the roads I want to ride. The Zumo just lets me know if I can get to my target by the road I have selected. I find auto routing very fun to ride with, easily discover new roads and new routes to ride. ![]()

No, it's not auto loading. You have to download the images from your computer and it doesn't allow you to track in Sat view from what I've heard.
It's needs to be true auto-loading, and constsantly updated imagery, like a link straight to Google Earth.
