So, what's the trick to getting steering bearing races out of the frame? I thought I could just tap them out using a punch (ok, a big screwdriver), but I can't get a purchase on the races. There isn't enough of a "shelf" to tap on.

I recently had to cut one out with a dremmel. Nothing for a tool to bite on. Took forever, but I was eventually able to break the race once I had cut deep enough into it.

Motorcyclesuperstore discount coupons
It's been a good x-mas for the DR650 around here. As a result I have a collection of 10% discount coupons - most of them expiring around the end of the year.
The first 4 people to PM can have them.

![]() In my case there is no space for a punch to get to the head bearing races. I don't think all (most?) bikes are like that. The more I work on this bike, a Honda XR250R, the more I wonder if they designed it to not be serviceable. Sort of a disposable "beginner's bike" or something.

heating the steering stem would have been another method for Cj if he had not ordered the puller

I got the race off the steering stem ok, It's the races (cups?) in the head tube. I tried heating the head tube, but no dice.

Read somewhere on the interweb, so it must be true, that some guys will run a bead around the inside of the race with a welder. When they're done they pop right out. Heat. Shrinking. Magic. All of those things playing a part.
Of course, if you don't have the welder...
