Average points per start does a good job of addressing that, since its an average. I think its a useful chart, especially during silly season.

Wow, talk about pressure. Nakamoto had said that he expects Marquez to be on the podium at Qatar, now he expects him to win several races.
Basically, he's expecting him to be as good or better than Lorenzo and Pedrosa were in their rookie years. We shall see. |

It is simple to see why that stat is useless.
Rossi raced with none of the aliens from 2000-2005 Pedrosa and Stoner joined the fray from 2006-2008 and the three challenged each other Then Lorenzo joined in 08 and we had four aliens. I am not going to do the research but if we had an a average from 08-12 then we may have something.

Lorenzo has the highest points per start average AND he had all the aliens to contend with, the whole time. You can make the excuse that Rossi was on the lame Duc, but Stoner won on it.

Not arguing with either. Honestly Lorenzo who I am not a fan of is likely the top alien all things being considered.

My biggest critique of Lorenzo, is that he doesn't really seem to enjoy his achievements.
Oh yes, he celebrates, but it seems hollow somehow. He waves his arms, jumps around and pumps his fist, but it always seems overly contrived or hollow. I've tried to cheer for him, but something always leaves me feeling flat. He's missing the "it" factor that other riders have hooked me with over the past few decades.

If Rossi is within striking distance to Lorenzo, 2013 is gonna be epic. Oh, but there's the other "if", that they both stay healthy. 2010 was already shaping up an epic season, then Rossi broke the leg.
The most memorable races from the 800 era, for some reason Rossi is almost always there in the fight. Dunno why "the others" don't create the same level of entertainment. This year Lorenzo&Pedrosa did produce a few good duels, though. |

I don't have anything against Lorenzo, but he doesn't really excite me either. Lorenzo is like the Al Gore of MotoGP--all the credentials are there, but he's got no personality to back them up. |
