This THREAD definitely, DEFINITELY pushed me over the edge. I had been lurking over at rennlist since 2005 and bought my first PCar this year... I drove my 911 to work today and enjoyed every bit of it.
Lurking for seven years? You are a more patient man than I am! I found Rennlist and Pelican a few months ago after following this thread off and on for a year or so.

Just got back from my first drive with the 911. Never drove a Porsche before or any sort or real sports car. Drove a car with a manual transmission once 30 years ago. First five minutes were pretty shaky, next hour was a blast. These things truly are like go karts. Drives just a bit different than my 530 .

I've driven nothing but manual transmission cars for almost the last thirty years, and STILL driving a 911 (especially the air-cooled ones) is a different experience. Stiff-as-hell clutch, VW Beetle-like shifter, non-power brakes, no power steering is a paradigm shift from any other car I have driven, but it is visceral as all hell.

And your 911 Carrera looks a lot like my '82 911 SC - color, body, everything, except yours is a LOT nicer!

Visceral indeed. This thing seemed so raw at first it was actually kind of jarring. I was thinking "ok, what did I get myself into?" but after getting a feel for the clutch and winding it out for the first time, oh my. As you said, a truly unique experience.

Am I the only one who wants to give Sox Fan a hard time for not getting a "white" one?

This is a friend's '82 SC. He did a complete nut & bolt restoration - it took about a year and a half. The car is simply stunning. He went to Porsche for the paint code for the 2010 997 Sport Classic.. and they actually gave it to him. I love this car. The pictures don't do it justice.

No interior pics yet but it is really nice shape. Black with a good looking aftermarket sport wheel and carbon fiber shifter knob. Rode the thing to work this morning. My, that was a different commute!

Very nice - and I love SC's without the whale tail. The current 997 is going to be as classic looking in 30 years

+1

I get a wild hair to sell my '79 every once in a while. Then I drive it again. Noisy, stinky, and unrefined as can be. I love it.

Alas, both the P-Cars are going on the block when I get home in Jan. Just doesn't make sense to pay to store them in Utah when I live in NYC.
