Cape York- July August 2013

Hey,
After many trips through the high country, snowys and central Aus, we are heading to the Cape.
Just after some general info on that area...... you know... do's, dont's, what GPS is best? ( I usualy use maps) travel times? any info would be great.
I am traveling with a mate around end of July early August 2013,
I will be aboard my trusty Kato 450 (pretty well decked out) and my mate is yet to purchase a bike for the trip, as his GS 1200 is a bit too much of a hand full up there he thinks.. this bike will also act as a learners bike for his missus.
so yeah... any info would be great
