A bit sad that all these rumors came true.

The weight reduction is nice over the older models, but they are now basically blue KTMs with a plastic subframe, can't see much if any difference otherwise.

For a race bike the new models might be faster, but as a solid adventure bike I will gladly stay with my 70° FE570. More power means it's less stressed on those road sections and when you are heavily loaded, the air filter location is far far superior both for staying clean and for fording ability, the subframe can be switched to a 1 gallon tank with no weight or handling penalty and it's simply a totally sorted platform by now.

I do wish mine had an optional kick starter though!

I've gotta agree, the Husaberg uniqueness is now gone, it's now down to whether you like Blue or Orange as a color choice...

i figured KTM would eventually go the way of the Berg layout,
but it's Berg going the way of KTM.
Bergs are now the super special edition KTMs.

But now I own a classic and I don't have to worry about wanting a new and improved model.

Seriously, I just was doing a google search to see the height of bike (without walking through the rain out to the shop) to see if it would fit in a Honda Element and noticed something about the FE501 and then looked deeper.

My guess is that they are maybe better than the KTM due to some improvements over the KTM, but not much that you couldn't do to a KTM.

So I am going to keep my 570 around for quite a while. I will probably get a Husaberg or KTM two stroke (or maybe a Christini two stroke) but the 570 will now be my all-around do it all bike.

I wonder if there are many 70 degree bikes sitting in showrooms, or if they have all been sold?

I guess a positive is you could go to a KTM dealer for needed parts plus maybe aftermarket large tanks designed for the KTMs will fit the Berg as will a bunch of other aftermarket parts. I wonder if in the end it was a financial issue to keep them the same.

Many of the 70 deg. parts were KTM parts available from a KTM dealer - especially the internals and electrics. The parts that were different, the frame and the engine cases, if you broke those you were pretty much screwed anyway.

As for tanks, I prefer the Husaberg tanks - the stock tank, the subframe tank, the Safari tanks, they all work well, give you about 8 gallons total, and distributed the weight properly. You also have the choice of getting as much or as little capacity as you need, and removing an individual tank if you wanted less capacity for a particular ride. Much better than having to buy a huge single tank and always having to use it (or switch between it and the stock tank).

Of course, the "new" Husabergs (*cough* KTMs *cough*) reportedly maintain the plastic subframe, so maybe they can still use a subframe tank? I am not curious enough to research it as I am not going to buy one. Going to hang onto my precious 70 degree 570 now.
