The HP difference, just like that with the F800, is only really noticed at very top end.
Take a look at the performance curves for where you would normally ride and there is not a great deal of difference. |

Jumping BMW F650GS
This was my first time to jump the new bike just after I bought it in 2010. Location is Motta Sicily, Italy. Okay, it was more like a hop. But, it was fun!

All the time
My wife on her 650 and me on my 800 just completed a 5,500km ride through inland Australia. Around 3,000km of this ride was on dirt roads and tracks. This ride took us 3 weeks and we camped out most nights. This ride took place in August and at that time in Australia is was at 0.0 Celsius most nights. The 650 performed flawlessly as did the 800. My wife had been only riding bikes for 18 months, and there was the slight doubt in my mind about the difficulty of the journey. It was an epic and almost life changing experience for us both, we are now eagerly planning our next venture up yo the Gulf country.

That is the kind of jump that gives Motorrad warranty claims people massive fits. That is a damn good jump on the F658. ![]()
