Still cannot get confirmation from HRC that Zanol is out for sure although I really don't think it's a question any longer...it just hasn't been confirmed officially. They also haven't answered any of my questions if they will court any replacement riders.

Re: Zanol - After being in a coma (induced or otherwise) only a month prior to the sart date the race, even if Felipé woke up from his hospital bed dancing and singing...It'd be a very brave doctor (team legal people) who would give a rider a "release" and declare them fit to ride after a blow to the melon like that...

Kinda like a KO in the boxing ring... wisest move is a mandatory time out - even if you do come up swinging.

As far as replacements go... No news on that front, and it's getting closer to "D day" every day that passes...

Even if we know nothing about his injury, it'd be down-right ridicules to send him to do a race like the Dakar after this incident.
I wouldn't let him ride a bumper car.

He is still in hospital, so I believe that speaks for itself for now, fingers still crossed for a full recovery

Yep, all on Helder now for HRC, but if Coma is out then it seems like the 1,2,3 challenge could be Cyril, Helder and Joan B? - but wide open for anyone staying in touch this year

Actually he did the Sardinia Rally 2011 and 2012 (17th overall)

Competitors can pull out at any time, but of course, they get no refunds. Coma will have an announcement on Friday and make the ultimate determination at that point.

1.2 CANCELLATION AND REQUEST FOR REFUNDS
1) So as to avoid any ambiguity, cancellation of entries and requests for refunds must be sent by registered post. Cancellations and requests for refunds must be sent to:

So it seems like you can pull out and get a substantial refund given the time, but Sept 1st, but not sure if the "serious problem" under item 4) would supersede 3.2, or exactly what 3.2 means?but it will be linked to the payment stages.

Nothing in there about replacements that I can see, but would imagine it would take a substantial effort from an influential team and the replacement rider would need to fulfill the original entry criteria - not too many options then from those not already in, but maybe a few options for a few but my money would be on not, so maybe all the speculation has been in vane?

For someone to put a replacement forward a big risk also as big money - would they really be Dakar ready?

Maybe there has been some history on replacements?
