Ive been busy, I have an appointment at a real plastic welding shop in the nearest city 200 miles away next month. But until then i figured i could work on everything else.

I hooked up the fuel lines and pump today.

the quick disconnects that came on the tank were useless since no one in town had the other end, so i just hose clamped the hose.

Then i ran both hoses up the sides, trying not to get it right up next to the engine.

I brought up the 2 hoses and connected them to a T connector. the single hose them goes to a cheap fuel filter (to protect the pump)

Then the hose will connect to the fuel pump which sits perfectly in the void under the rear of the seat. The output line is turned into 3/16 (the input was 5/16). I threaded the hose around in a curve by the taillight.

Then thread it though little gaps to an open space next to the vent hose. But since the fuel pump will not let the main tank vent i needed to keep the vent line. So i placed a Y connector, i didn't use a T because i didn't want the fuel to be squirted out of the vent tube.

Im going to keep the fuel pump on a switch so that i will only have it on when i want to fill the main tank. Ill wire up the switch and pump tomorrow, and ill try and test it

Great bike! I think you may still have an issue with the vent line at the Y connector. The pressurized fuel from the helper pump is going to find as many ways as it can to the lowest pressure regardless of the length of the path. You'll have fuel squirting out of the vent at whatever the helper pump's PSI is.

I'm wondering, would you be able to just hook up the TT tank to the main tank vent and let the main tank pull the fuel in? If you plumb the main tank vent to the TT tank I would think the vacuum created by the main tank emptying would draw in the TT tank fuel.

Also, if you connected the tanks this way, the main tank would still be able to vent via the TT tank. If the main tank was over-pressurized it would send air into the TT tank which would then bubble up through the fuel in the TT tank and out the TT tank vent.

The vent line from the Y runs an inch back and an inch higher than the line to the tank, we will have to see how much fuel i loose.

If i run the lines with no pump only 3.5 gallons feed into the main tank, i dont think the pressure in the main tank is enough to suck the res out on the TT tank. from where the fuel comes out of the TT tank to the vent line on the main tank is 9 inches vertical.

Did you get the plastic welding done? If it fails are you just going to buy a new one? Or at the very least an undamaged one?

I have an appointment on the 8th of next month. If it doesnt work, ill try and fill up the void behind the crack with fuel resistant sealer. My wife gave me a budget of $400 for the whole project, and with the welding im getting close to that number. so we will see.

I finished the paint color scheme on the tank today. A cool Black and White design. I still have the painters tape over the BMW badge and knee pad things. Tomorrow im going to finish it off with clear coat and make it done. or should i wait longer than 24 hours for the paint to dry before clear coating it?

If it is dry go ahead, I tend to wet sand with 1k grit if there are any flaws but if it looks good go ahead. Go easy with the clear. I would definitely test the clear out on something before you go live on the tank. But since you are getting work done on the tank I would hold off because you will most likely have to wait anyways because it may get scuffed.

Once the welding is done can you reinforce it as a precaution? I probably would just as a safety measure but I have never delt with tanks like this. Would not be fun to get it all done and have a failure. Perhaps a weld then a composite applied to the inside. Hmmm I really want this to work out for you.

...... I have had success bonding some tanks, but it really is hit or mis, and you don't know until you do a test. I do believe I would reinforce the mounting holes, and I don't just mean on your tank, but on all structural serving poly.....tanks. Something's gotta give, when you throw the Fraulein in the dirt, and as you can see on this thank, it is not strong enough. That can be fixed with composites. Finn ( Lostrider) were considering swinging by, and have impact pads done, but it did not happen. I would also put on a set of lower corner bash pads..... But that's just me.... I'm an idiot pilot, and like to fly airplanes with turbines....and lots of them, in case one fails....

id like to use something to reinforce it, but in not sure with what. But the rubber bushing that goes in the hole only has rubber on the ends, its not rubber all the way though so im thinking that maybe i will get bushings that go all the way though.

Well the cool things is that when i put the tank on the bike i placed my Altrider crash bars on, and if i bend out the ends an inch on both sides it should fit without any modifications. but i wont really know till i get the crossbar. but id be pretty excited if i could make crashbars work i know people say it why they wont get the tank (me included)

The pump is to move the fuel from the TT tank to the main tank because i bought the tank at least 3rd hand and almost all of the parts were missing.

I finished clear coating the tank. I really like how it turned out. Im going to my inlaws for Christmas, so the tank will have a few days to fully dry.

Just got my specially imported cross support bar in the mail. The problem i now have is it doesnt fit properly with my Remus headers.... It hits the headers in a few places, but i think i can use some spacers to get it to work. Off to Home Depot tomorrow for bolts and washers!

You shouldn't bother with that dirty work. Instead I will take them evil headers off your hands, and send you my stock headers......
