any current news/status regarding Punta San Francisquito in Baja?

I'm planning a Baja ride in late February, am wondering if the palapas/store at San Francisquito is open, and whether they have gas or not?

I have heard of a place approximately 15-20 miles inland, Rancho Piedra Blanca, that has lodging/gas, but would rather stay on the beach.

Any recent/current info would be greatly appreciated.

Bumping this older thread...

The Magoo team and some other riders are doing another Baja trip this February and thinking of staying in San Francisquito in late February 2015. Has anyone heard any recent reports on the area or the palapas/cabins? I had heard there was some damage from the recent storms and hurricanes and they may not be taking lodgers. Anyone have any recent info.?

Thanks in advance for any information!

2 years ago I advised this going to Baja Nomads, do you have any reason why you wouldn't use them now?

was there last week

Hi,
I made it down there last week, 11/17 actually. with 2 other buddies on our 990's. The road coming in was in great shape and loads of fun. The place looked deserted... Some of the palapas on the beach were damaged, but still usable. Soon after we arrived, a little beater 4x4 approached us.. The locals asked for $10 ea.. No problem. We asked them for cold beer.. They delivered on ice. We asked them for dinner, we had fish tacos.. and breakfast.. We were fine on gas, but I would guess you could obtain some there. Awesome stay on the beach. Hope this helps.

No reason whatsoever. I wasn't part of the group on last years ride and I guess I just didn't read all the posts here before I asked. I will give that site a look and thanks for the reply!

Yes, it helps a lot. Thanks very much for your reply especially since you have just been there.

So, was the family that normally runs the palapas not there? Did you use the palapas or just crash/camp on the beach?

I was there a couple weeks ago. Not many people there, most of the palapas were damaged, only a few had roofs on them that probably leaked if it rained. Beach was still beautiful and people at the restaurant were friendly, although they tried to charge me $50 for two plates of food since I was the only gringo they had seen in weeks. They also had gas in 50gal drums for $15/gallon. It might be $7/gal this week.

The sunrise at SF was amazing

Thank you for that update and the photos are awesome! Not looking like it would be a good place for lodging this time around. May have to find an alternative location for this night but we may still cruise by to just check out the place and the beach.
Thanks again!!
