Air filter sensor
Hi gang,
Pulled down my 990 adventure (2012) on the weekend..to check the air filter. I noticed on the front end of the cover there is what appears to be a sensor ...so I'm wondering, if the air filter needs cleaning /replacing.. does a warning light cone up ..? Perhaps it sense vacuum pressure..I'm guessing if the filter is clogged there will be a greater vacuum in there..? Ideas anyone..? :)

Ahh... So, its be used as an input source for the fuel injection unit right..? Ie air temp is related to air density etc..? Any warning lights linked to it..? Any way it can tell how dirty the filter is..? -guessing not!

Checking the air filter is a simple 5-7 minute job. 1 - Remove seat 2 - Remove 6 screws holding glove box cover 3 - Remove 2 screws holding fusebox inside glove box 4 - Remove 4 bolts holding glovebox. Airbox is now in sight 5 - Remove 6 (or is it 8 ?) screws holding top cover of air box 6 - Disconnect IAT sensor 7 - Remove aix box top cover without pulling the snorkel off by manouevering it bit by bit.

Vicks nailed it pretty well.... Does anyone see a basic problem with the procedure??? 20 screws and small bolts just to check an air filter!!! Come on KTM you build an awesome bike but make service a little more user friendly. Hope the 1190 has been thought out so routine service is doable in the field if needed. Friend has a GS1200 and I asked how long it takes to check the valves... 30 minutes if he lags. Cheers |

I saw that new 1190 at the motorbike show ... Its a cool looking ON ROAD bike.. its as off road as a multistrada ... Sadly it seems KTM are acknowledging the fact that most people in this market segment hardly go real off road. My 990 to me is a big ass trail bike..it reminds me of my wr450 and xr600 but much bigger and more comfy ...the new one however, its a road bike with suspension travel. No way in hell would I want to be dropping one, or being on my own and having to pick it up from a high side drop on some snotty hill...reality it I just wouldn't Even attempt anything like that. In OZ there are many tracks which look good and white OK but as you ride down them they get worse and have a few real snotty sections ... That's when a big ass trailbike, as opposed to a road centric bike comes into its own, and gives you heaps of confidence.
Granted, most guys seem to like the bikes in this market segment as a physical token of their dreams and will do a decent trip once a year, with others and a support vehicle of some kind. I believe the 1190 comes with free entry to the 'who can get the most ugly and huge shiney steel boxes on it' award. Yes, ranting...but the new 1190...that's NO trail bike at all.. :-( Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2

the air intake is kept high for a rally bike. not lower than the rider's balls on so called "adventure" bikes so that water can get in at the first river crossing. Nor cylinder heads that send out invitations to rocks and tree stumps to come check them out while riding gnarly sections. and since when does anyone check valves / air filter in the field ? these are "planned" maintenance works carried out at home/garage.
