Where is the place to go to have tyres fitted in Ashburton. Someone told me that an Advrider works in one of the bike shops there. I want to fit an E07 to the rear, as the TKC may not hold up well enough. On a recent ride the E07 on the back of my wife's bike hardly showed any wear, while the TKC had noticeably worn and I was careful with it.

Kwaka shop in Raikia has a Kiwibiker fella working at it (don't recall his handle). Otherwise there are two bike shops on the north end of Ashvages east of the railway line (yammy and Honda I think) and a Suzi shop near the McD's on SH1 near the middle of town.

Cheers R

Looks like it could be a wet ride. Let's hope it will blow over.

I could hardly get out of bed this morning due to a pinched nerve in my shoulder. Hopefully this will sort itself out before Wednesday, that's when I'll head off. the ferry is booked and a bed in Picton.

I searched all I could while here, and was in able to come up with a cheap dual sport that could go the distance in the DB. So, looks like I won't be able to make it. Instead I'll be sitting in Christchurch dreaming about riding.

Good luck all

You should have posted at kiwibiker forum to get more eyes on your problem, better chance of local help or finding someone maybe willing to rent.

I think i remember trying to register there and not knowing the answer to the secret question. Ran into similar problem with trade me and not having a nz number.

I posted on here multiple times figuring this would get the most looks, as well as the NZ regional thread.
I found a few bikes through lots of searching but nothing with a tank suitable for the distance. My Internet has also, and continues to be very limited which has hurt my searching.

I was sure somebody would have a spare to rent out, and I'd of course cover any damages, but doesn't appear anyone on adv does. I'm in new Brighton, and will swing by a bike shop or two tomorrow if I'm able to make it into Christchurch. But all the bikes shops I've stopped by since being here haven't had a used dual sport. Much less, one with the mileage capability for the DB.

Few Kiwi adventurers here on ADV rider, many there at kiwibiker in their Adventure forum.
Also me for example only visit here once a week or two, there every day.
Saw your earlier posts but didn't have anything for you.

Just been looking, stuff is out there for a price, nothing cheap and local on Trademe or motorcycle trader.
Packing an extra fuel can is not uncommon on the ride but if the bike isn't set up with luggage carrying of some sort then would be a bigger issue.

There are a few rental places that look like they do dual sport hires but big bond required.
http://www.biketoursnz.com/rentals.html is one.
http://www.bikeadventure.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=1815
I don't know these places or anyone who has used them in person.

Others do Enduro and Adventure Tours but maybe not straight bike only rental.

I probably would not tell them it's for the DB1K, maybe indicate a more roady trip unless something in the conditions and insurance need that info or could open yourself up for trouble in worse case happens.
Maybe stick to the main route, no challenge sections too.

I'd dig some more but bed time now and on a GPS help mercy mission tomorrow after work.

Closest I can come to helping is having a spare WOF/REG XR250L with a Givi. Range is 180-200km plus reserve.
Let me know if you are interested.
Cheers

As long as its legal to ride on the road, I'll hop on the opportunity. I have a xr250 back home, so know the bike well.

Excellent, Skiwi to the rescue !

If you are able to on Friday there is a whole extra days adventure ride to get to Fairlie happening.
Read this...
www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/153981-Christchurch-to-Dusty-Butt-Fri-18-January-2013

Meeting place changes on post 82 but you really do need to contact the man soon as possable to join in as he has some arrangements to make around rider numbers. Cost is $40 for land access that day. Guess I could pass a message on if you can't access the kiwibiker forum.

Much cooler than highway only to Fairlie.

Also looks like my room mate may have pulled out so could have a spare motel bed in Fairlie Friday and Sunday nights if needed $50/night.
Can not help Saturday night as we had separate arrangements for Alexandra.

Just trying to work out the logistics....

I live in Alexandra so will have to try and arrange delivery to somewhere closer to Fairlie?
Anywhere know of somewhere secure near the start I could leave it for SpeedoJoshto collect and drop off?
