Nice rack! The router trick is well worth noting for aluminum work, certainly more cost effective than buying a mill. One recommendation, I'd urge you to use button head machine screws rather than the cap screws so you don't eat a hole in whatever bag you carry back there. Otherwise it looks great and certainly offers more support than the BMW rack.

I'm still looking for long enough button head screws. As it is had to order these and the only other ones I've found long enough were hex head. Hopefully I'll be adding a hard box soon and it won't be an issue. Anyone know where I can find M6x 70 mm button heads?

Yes, Peter, I have a case. Moose Expedition Rear hard case. Two keys, easy removes from mounting, fits full helmet, 15 by 15 by 10. Maybe $70 plus 15 for shipping. PM me.

Try McMaster Carr. They have just about any hardware imaginable.

Fastenal has M6 X 70mm flush mount tapered head bolts (allen key center)

Boats, that is a really good design !!!!

I have made some spacers, and cobbled together something for an existing top box, but yours is MUCH better.

Do you find any flex, toward the rear ? or is the rear of the rack resting on the centre hump directly inline, and behind the BMW roundal.

I have a 2012 G650GS with about 2600 miles on it. Im going to be replacing the factory exaust with a Leo Vince LV-One EVO II Slip-On Exhaust, does any one have an idea what would be a good asking price for the factory exaust if I decide to sell it??

I own a 2000 BMW F650GS, i'll try to post some pics later on.

Haven't been doing any riding since august....my bike died under me on the highway and I've not been able to fix it.....so my BMW dealer will have a go at it next month..

Very little flex, I have it set up so that you could just slide a piece a paper between the plate and the "hump". So all the weight is on the spacers and bolts. Even when I had it sitting on the little round spacers it was very sturdy.

After some more digging online I was able to find some bolts with a lower profile, but I think I'll just let these ride for awhile.
