Whaddya Know!
My engine is fine ![]() Valves perfect, piston and rings perfect and cylinder completely unscored. Looks like brand new, in fact ![]() Can anybody guess what the problem was? I'll post a video of the head, piston and the problem item that made me think the engine had gone "boom". Merry whatever it is to you all, by the way.

Perfect!
Starter Clutch shat itself, making the horrible sounds and I feared the worst.

NX250 starter motor
Quote:
Problemes with the starter motor are unusual, too (let’s say it was the stupid previous owner fault) - I know a few cases with bad roller bearings of the starter motor. What part exactly screwed up? Pictures would be good ![]() ![]() ![]() btw. Honda is not selling the roller bearings separately, so you would have to buy a new starter motor scrambler66 screwed with this post 12-25-2012 at 10:50 PM |

![]() Piston looking good. My mechanic gave the cylinder a tiny hone, here it is before cleaning after the hone: ![]() The head: Valves in good shape. Some ever so light scoring on cam journals, but not bad enough to worry about: ![]() Below is the part that failed, post repair. ![]() At some point in the bike's life the bearings on the top had failed and Khmer mechanics had welded on a similar item from a car - a common fix here. This type of repair never lasts too long because the car item is not designed for motorcycle engines compression. Also, it was missing two thrust washers which can be seen in the picture below of the repaired item and the old, busted roller bearing set from the car. ![]() Should b back on the road tomorrow running as well as ever.

Talking of Brazil have you ever considered parts from the XRE300? The engine is almost identical to the NX250 and its also manufactured in Brazil, so parts may be easier to get in Argentina . You would need a parts list of the XRE to check which engine parts actually fit.

MSR Footpegs with Offset
Very nice and clean Dommie, I especially like the XR600 stainless steel manifolds
![]() @ all As I learned from this forum, KLR footpegs should fit our Nixies - MSR footpegs are available with 13mm offset for enhanced shifter area. Which would be neat for anyone with a shoe size larger than 7 Unfortunately, for a try those pegs are fairly expensive if ordered from Europe, so I was wondering if anybody already tried them or would like to |

@scrambler66, do you think that honda grabbed that header off the shelf for that? Under the bike it's duals all the way back. Stock un altered. Thanks for the complement. As far as foot pegs are concerned, I used crf 50 pegs. They cost about $35 on eBay in any color and near any alloy.

Bugger,
Decided to throw a new camchain into the bike while it was open, tensioner was fine. Got the head back on and we went to adjust the valves to discover one exhaust valve was beyond adjustment. It was also Taiwanese shit and not OEM. Head back off, new OEM oil seals x 4, Hot Cam shims , 2 OEM Exhaust valves and a big clean up or the inlet valves. This crap's getting expensive

my guess, faulty CDI
This is what happens... Now that I finally got my bike back and runing, I'm having a new issue.
As soon as the engine gets hot enough to start the fan, I get short on spark, The engine will start failing and would not cease until I let it cool down a little.. If I go quiet and below 5k revs, then nothing but perfection happens. Another thing that I noticed is that when that happens or is about to happen (the spark issue) the tach will go crazy, showing 3k revs when Im pretty sure I'm going 1.5k.. but dont know if related... My final thought was that my CDI is bad... what do u say? pd.: engine and carb are more than perfect... so dont focus on that.. My alternator has been repaired 1 month ago, and regulator is brand new. |

Does not not sound like CDI to me, though it's possible.
Certain that it's losing spark? Or is that just your impression?

Yep. Out of nowhere, I get gas, air but no spark. I get ramdom explotions, and if i quit forcing the throttle, engine will stop. same as when you run out of gas. It feels as if when engine is hot, the CDI pulse will not catch up with the revs, so it fails to get a continuous spark..
