Pretty cool bikes, but a license plate would be required to ride in anywhere but your back yard.

2013 New York IMS show

Anyone heading down to the New York IMS show next month (Jan 18-20)? I bought tickets for the wife and I to attend. We are planning to take the train down to NYC on Thursday, hit the show on Friday, then mess around in the city until Sunday sometime.

We last atended the NYC show on a Saturday in 2010. The show was great but the huge Javits Center was SRO by lunchtime and we left before seeing everything due the the crushing sea of humanity. This year we will try going on Friday and see how that works out.

Last year we went to the IMS show in Cleveland (Why in god's name Cleveland you ask? I had to work over the NYC show and my wife and I have family in Cleveland), which runs the weekend following the NYC show - don't waste your time. A mere fraction of the show size and even smaller fraction of manufacturers and products represented. Many product displays were static displays with no representative manning the display. BMW? Not there. Really?

Just got a new contract at work with a raise and retro check, and I have been in contact with a manufacturer of a bike that interests me, so I am taking my checkbook. We'll see what happens there.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas!

I'm heading to the DC show next wknd. Stayin with my Sister and my bro in law in Annapolis for the wknd. Might hit the NYC show also. Always worth the trip. Get in early as the doors open, and get out by 1pm is our usual plan.

I was just checking that thing out when I saw your post! I was searching electric mountain bike hybrids when I came across it online. It is cool that people are still trying to create innovative products in our marketplace.

What space does this thing fit? Can it be too light? can it take a beating? I wonder how much stability it has on the rocky trails we ride (seems like you'd want a little heft). I've never ridden a trials bike, they seem real light too.

Alternatives might include what you did...buy a 125cc and set it up for woods.

I started thinking hybrid mountain bike could be cool for legal trail riding, exercise, etc...( been watching to many youtube videos).

Happy New Year!

IMS shows

NYC

Me and few friends are planing to attend NYC show, I think Saturday, early arrival is key as tmlee mentioned by noon it's gonna be packed ( is SRO Standing Room Only?) place gets mobbed by all the leather vest clubs that arrive by public transport dressed in their full pirate gear.

Friday is probably the best, Saturday is long day and gets crazy, Sunday is short day and most of exhibitors are tired and start packing early.

DC

Got few friends in DC who are all planning to come up to NYC show, apparently DC show sucks pretty bad (sucked for years now) most vendors don't want to spend the money on a small and not very well attended venue, so in short it's not worth going.

Looks like a "Pirate Convention" from the pictures. Gee, where can I see a Harley painted like a dinosaur.

There has been bike shows in Hartford and at the Eastern States Exposition and the only thing that was interesting (to me anyway) was a trials riding demonstration. The main focus was customized bikes, mostly Harleys. Save your money guys.

yea it's not the best show but it's close, they have a weak custom bike competition show where you will see the same cruiser bikes every year, they did have a trials rider as well which was fun to watch, a few bike brands were there with all different styles of their bikes (this year: suzuki, triumph, honda, bmw, yamaha, victory, harley, boss hoss & aprilia), moms was there with their used bikes, there was gear, parts, some porn star looking chicks walking around and most importantly beer ...better than sitting at home...and who doesn't like pirates...they're great when they roll up in their hundai SUVs (cause you know they didn't ride there in january) wearing all their leather, chains, bandannas and vests
