I had the same problem on my '03. Replaced them with '04 mirrors (under warranty IIRC): no more problem.

Seventh, good luck, those gremlins can be a bitch but better you than the dealer for cost and knowledge. There is supposed to be a circlip on top of the sidestand switch- many are long gone, waiting for a muffler meltdown.

Is it possible that the fuel tank breather is plugged and your getting a vacume in the fuel tank? Fuel supply issue?

So I'm looking for a used Dakar and prices seem to be all over the map. Can anyone give me some guidance as to what's a fair price to pay for one? Let's say price for a stock one, and one with mild upgrades like luggage/center stand.

For health reasons I am going to hack my 2001 Dakar. I need new chain and sprokets and have been advised to go to a 47/15 combo. These may be dumb questions and I think I know the answers but I will ask anyway just to be sure.

Will the 520/112 link chain still work with the different sproket combo?
What exactly does going with a 15 instead of a 16 front sproket result in as far as performance? Lower bottom end, less rpm at highway speeds???
Anyone have a recommendation for sourcing these items?

The smaller CS sprocket will result in a slightly lower final drive ratio... more grunt, less top speed (more engine rpms at whatever speed).

yea the chain should still work since you are going one less tooth on the combo. you will have to slide the wheel back farther in the swingarm to take up the extra slack. if the chain is too long you will have to take off 2 links. thats better than a chain that is too short to use though.

My experience with the 15 tooth front is that in 5th at 100km/h the rpm is 4700 with a 16 tooth it is 4100rpms I switch regularly between the 2 sprockets with the same chain. I find the 15 to viby for long hwy trips but great for dirt and switchbacks. JT is my prefered brand.

I use jt brand sprockets too with great results. Can't beat the price too!

Anyone tried to relocate a Lithium Iron battery to the rear tail section?

Other than the lock getting in the way my Ballistic battery drops in. Perhaps replacing the rear tail light would make it possible?
