Big announcement

Too all my 600 pals...

The Great Moderators in the sky have granted me my Christmas wish.
I have now taken my chosen handle for which I am known on all other boards.

You can look for me here, and on the trail as 2manyrides...

I am no longer over the top with 20 too many, just generaly excessive and unaccountable with TOO.

Now, being that I have the acerbis tank with removeable name plates I shall create a proper insert to replace the original.
(acrylic? wood?...stand by)
None of this taky tape job which I used to identify my self during the 40+ rider assualt on tahoe for which the plated 600 was created.

And now celebrate with me, relive the elustrious lake tahoe event....(if you must)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixN0mcaaSv0 AOT 2

Name plate change coming soon to a trail near the creek.

Of course, it's a bit of a mute point since the bags cover it up...

Hi !

Don't know if it's posted in the appropried tread, whatever ..

Im about to bid on a used XR600R / 03.1994 / 12'500 km
No pics of the bike but this comment : "Bike dosen't run - carburation issue : stalls at high RPM"

I'm interested to buy it, but cheap , and ... if it's not a big deal to fix it.
I have all basic tools and average mecanic knowlege, but dont know this bike at all

Can you comment about the mentionned problem, if you have any idea about it ? Maybe fuel filter, jets, stator ... ?

Thank's

Simplest thing, which at prolly aint, would be a clogged air vent for the gas tank.
I think other's might want to know what year it is and any mods done.

One of this kind, but with dot tires (I suppose)

Note : 1$ is more or less 1 swiss franc

why no pics? I would be very wary of that...unless you get a bike for like $200 thats a big gamble

your issues might be from among other things:

ignition related(shorted wires, fault stator, bad cdi, coil or any combination of these items) price to repair ranges from simply changing a sparkplug to 2-300 hundred dollars for a new stator and or cdi or coil.

carb simple, get a complete gasket kit and repair kit for about $70 for both kits and you will resolve issues related to sputtering, overflowing gas, leaks, stumbles, bad jetting etc...

but the commnt says does not run, then quits at high idle...so which is it? will it not start or will it die after starting and running at high rpms?

if it dies at high rpms it might be as simple as bad float level and it runs out of gas

if it doesnt start then the above solutions issues might be your problems

this is with no engine teardown...if it is engine related then you are looking at more $$$$ to fix up

cheers

Exactly my point of view : a gamble ... that why im asking

I will ask the seller if it starts

12'500 km is low mileage. Anyway 500$ will be my upper limit, even in case of positive advise here

Thx for your comments

As the seller is almost a neighborg, i could see the bike and get some infos

He already changed the stator and cleaned the carb .. then gave up.

The bike starts, but stalls on throttle open. That could be resolved, i suppose.

Beside this, she's not been runned for 10 years, all the plastics are cracky.

Ad minima, she needs a complete stripping, frame paint, plastics changing.

I took few pics

The seller gives also a 20 liters tank with
My bid on it would not be more than 400$, i guess

What you guys think about it ?

Just picked up a basket-case XR600R, needs a full rebuild from the ground up, but otherwise complete.

EXCEPT (always a catch....)...it needs a head.

Is there a good supplier or rebuilder for XR heads ? This is the early model with two carbs, will other model or later heads work ?

Second issue will be to get a street title in Indiana.....

not a bad deal at all now...new stator means you got that off the list..it starts but dies thats all carb...clean and boil the carb, new gaskets and jet correctly and you are good to go...

you can do a complete rebuild do a complete rebuild in a few months and ride as is for the moment after cleaning the carb or do a little at a time, your choice

since the bike sat for 10 years you have your answer...new oil and filter, new gas and a carb cleaning and you are in business

I would say that the seller will not accept 400 for the bike...jajajaj

ps...the seller probably put the carb together wrong after cleaning it and gave up...I wouldnt be surprised if he messed up installing the floats upside down or missing a part...it could be as simple as that

I would take the gamble!

Thanks for your help here Elsalvadorklr !

As this is an auction, I'll place a bid accordingly in the last minute, if its not already higher.

To Krono

If you can verify the mileage, I think it might be worth it.

What bothers me from what I can see in the photo's is that there are pillion pegs fitted, our XR's was never designed to carry a pillion, unless you upgrade the rear shock. Also, the front headlight looks like it might be from an XL600R or a XR650L. Check the wattage of the headlight, the standard stator is not happy with much more than 35W IIRC. (Mine is an Australian model)

I bought my 1998 XR600R 2 years ago at 13000km's, and the plastics were like new. For that matter, the bike was like new, I have not needed to do anything to mine except service items, chains and sprockets and several rear tyres in 18000km's.

Good Luck!

some euro countries have them stock...or as an add on stock...

look at the headlight shroud too...stock for those models...

aussies came with a dc converted dualsport kit, huge restrictor plate..etc...

in guatemala the xr600 and xr650r came plated and dualsported off the showroom floor...blinkers gauges and all

just sayin
